Mindful of the use of initials on cricket scorecards, I named my son Thomas Marc Stanley just in case. It seems to be working - he's a useful all-rounder and obsessed with the game.

Rishabh Pant is still yet to get off the mark and Rahane has added just one run since Kohli got out. Real pressure being put on them by England, really testing their patience.

Re Paul (15:11), you still got it wrong mate.

What a shot from Rishabh Pant! Wow. Even though it didn't come off, fair enough. That's what makes Rishabh Pant, Rishabh Pant. What is good to see is he is taking guard on middle and off stump now. He was standing on leg previously and was away from that angled delivery.

There was a chap in the pavilion sitting at one of the long tables, tapping away on his tablet. 'Halloween experience for four' it said on the screen. Imagine coming to the Test, then thinking you need to arrange your Halloween plans.
Rahane 5, Pant 0
Wow! Rishabh Pant practically sprints down the wicket towards Ollie Robinson, takes a huge golf-like swing and completely misses the ball by about a metre.
The crowd cheers, Robinson smiles, Pant shrugs.
You've got to admire his commitment to entertaining.

Virat Kohli had 10 runless deliveries after reaching his half-century. It's the fourth time in five Test matches this summer, including the World test Championship final, that he has reached 40. Those scores have been 44, 42, 55 and 50. Kohli has been unable to escape the clutches of two fine seam bowling attacks.
It's the fifth half-century in a row he has made without converting it into a century. The most he had in a sequence before this run was three.

My youngest son is named after Ally McCoist (very much driven by my wife's Glaswegian allegiances). What I had not thought through in advance of his arrival was I didn't know how to spell Alistair correctly. Vividly remember having to quickly Google it when asked by midwife to avoid a lifetime of spelling confusion.

Another maiden keeps England firmly in control. Whenever he bats, we ask 'How will Rishabh Pant play this situation?'
He's not one to wait around - but his counter-attacking approach has been his downfall in the series so far.
Literally just as Kohli got out, we got through the clip of him reaching 50.
Rahane 5, Pant 0
Rishabh Pant, who is also under a lot of pressure after a torrid series so far, survives his first ball.
The Oval crowd has come to life with that wicket as Ollie Robinson receives a standing ovation as he jogs down to the fine leg boundary.

That's exactly the relentlessness outside the off stump that England have produced again. You are going to get the odd one which is a pearler. That bounced, reared up at Virat Kohli, and he will be disappointed. He has failed to convert again. A great piece of bowling, and great discipline. England are right in this now.
Kohli c Bairstow b Robinson 50 (Ind 105-5)
From nowhere! Bit of a strange dismissal - trying to turn the ball into the leg side, Robinson finds the edge and England are elated.
Kohli looked set, barely playing a false shot since his drop and that partnership was just starting to settle in for India - a perfect time for England to strike.
Ajinkya Rahane plays out a maiden from Anderson with relative ease.

Further research (this is an important subject) suggests you can get a beer for a fiver in the pavilion. Members' perks and all that.

India are trying to be a little bit more positive, I think. They were subdued before lunch in the face of relentless England bowling. India need to throw some more punches back at this England attack. Joe Root, however, will feel he's one or two wickets away from knocking them over fairly cheaply.
Kohli 50, Rahane 5
There's still a bit of swing out there for Ollie Robinson, but Kohli survives a nervy play and miss.

Got a friend who named his child after his favourite Arsenal player, although not sure Terry Henry had quite the same ring to it as the French counterpart.

Before his half-century at Headingley Virat Kohli had gone eight innings without a fifty. That was his longest sequence without a fifty since 2014. It was a rare drought.
This half-century came off 85 balls, with eight fours. It's his 54th score of fifty or more in Test cricket. He has converted half of those, 27, into centuries. But his last century came in December 2019 against Bangladesh.
