And there we have it. Joe Root leads his players off the field as the spin is not working, the light is too bad for him to bowl the seamers and that's probably it for the day.

It is a newish ball. I would have gone straight off if I was England.

The Retrospective: I get the need to have a fixed over cap since the penalties incentivise quicker over rates, not that teams ever hit 90 in a day. What I don’t get is the 6 30 finish when the light is good. Surely closing at 7 when possible would provide more results & fewer draws?

And there's the danger of bowling spinners at this stage - there's no room for error as Moeen drops short and it's emphatically pulled for four by Jadeja.
Should England go off instead of bowling spin at both ends?

Alex Brown: Cricket is killing itself. The light is no different than it was 6 hours ago. And I’ve sat in the crowd at the Oval all day. Pathetic.
A bit of turn there for Root, who delivers a maiden. The final brings a very, very optimistic appeal from Jonny Bairstow - I'm not even sure what it's for.

You don't want to give away easy runs.

Yes, Joe Root is bowling. Maybe bowling to the left-handed Jadeja it's a good option, but it could also be gifting runs away.
He starts with a dot ball that Jadeja cuts straight to backward point.

Why would England want to use a 10-over old ball with bowlers they don't want to use?
Surely Joe Root will not want to bowl himself and Moeen Ali in this situation?!
Ah ... here comes the light meter.

I don't think it is too dark yet but it is pretty dark.

A lovely square drive from Virat Kohli is guided away for four past cover point with exquisite placement.
And follows it up with a classical, high-elbowed cover drive for the same result.
It's getting quite gloomy out there and with Kohli making his way to 21, the momentum is shifting back India's way.

Jayswisshy: Can anyone explain the difference between overs played and overs remaining - as they seem to add up to 106 rather than the normal 90….
It's because India faced 16 overs last night, Jayswisshy...

Well it didn't come from absolutely nowhere because they had the new ball. But you know what I mean.
Jadeja doesn't look that comfortable, he's still prodding and poking about, but so far he's negotiating this new ball well as he solidly defends an Ollie Robinson maiden.
And here's the second of those Robinson wickets with the new ball.
Pujara and Rohit were looking like they could bat for days, so the double-wicket over came from absolutely nowhere.

These two have done well. They have managed to settle things so far.

Kohli and Robinson exchanged a few words after that four before drinks - but they were both laughing and it seemed pretty good natured.
Anderson tempts Jadeja by hanging the ball outside off stump but he manages to resist.

Mickey Wallis: Everyone obsessed about the Anderson-Kohli battle… I want to see Kohli at the other end. Robinson’s had his number more than Jimmy this series. Just want him gone though, doesn’t matter who gets him!

That was a glorious shot.
