Malan is giving himself out. He knows his number is up.

You might be about to see another one, Oliver...

Has Dawid Malan has been run out, as they attempt a quick single?

We've gone upstairs. Malan started to walk off, but is now waiting.

As Aggers alluded to Mohammed Siraj has replaced Shardul Thakar.

He starts with a full toss, before following the pattern of the morning so far: targeting Haseeb Hameed's off-stump and pads.

Hameed works him for a single through square leg.

Siraj has been summoned from the naughty corner. There still aren't many talking to him. It really was a sitter.

There are a lot of India fans here. If they get a couple more wickets, that crowd will have a big part to play.

That review, and little episode, may result in Dawid Malan thinking he has to use his bat a bit more. He defends out to backward point, before padding up again.

At the end of the over Virat Kohli went up to Richard Illingworth to discuss that not out call. A bit of kidology.

It's a good review actually, because they're retained it. And, it'll also get Malan thinking about what he can and can't play at. The players are swarming him now.

    Wow, wow, wow!

It's spinning back enough, in fact in line with middle stump, but height comes to Dawid Malan's aid.

It was flicking the top of the bails, and it was umpire's call on review.

Malan purses his lips in relief.

It's optimistic. No umpire is giving that out on the field.

They're all around him, there's about seven or eight fielders gathered around Malan.

  13. India reviewpublished at 12:28 British Summer Time 6 September 2021

    Uh oh.

Dawid Malan has padded up to Ravindra Jadeja outside off stump. Richard Illingworth has shook his head, but India send it upstairs.

    This could be close.

There's a seating area at the bottom of the dressing room stairs where the various sub fielders and coaches gather. England's subs are Mark Wood and Sam Curran, but bowling coach Jon Lewis and vice-captain Moeen Ali are down there too. Mo is in his tracksuit, flip flops and shades, the most relaxed man in London. Cool as you like.

India have bowled well to Haseeb Hameed today. They haven't given him any freebies, but he's been solid in defence, and in leaving the ball.

    A maiden from Shardul Thakar.

I think there would be an issue if Hameed had been run out, because he'd been taken out. But Malan would have run himself out.

Would Malan have had to go if he was short there? I'd be very interested to know how it would have played out.

    Oh, chaos!

Dawid Malan works the ball down to mid-on for a single, and as Ravindra Jadeja tries to get across to stop the ball he ends up bumping into Haseeb Hameed, and knocking the England opener over.

Malan ends up half way down the track, and the throw from mid-on, hits the stumps at the striker's end, but Malan has got back.

Malan and Virat Kohli have a chat. Here's arm waving from Kohli, and a bit of a laugh from Malan. I don't think he was too impressed that India tried to run him out there.
