    Target 368

Haseeb Hameed was pedestrian, and cautious, in the first hour. There was nothing with that, but he appears to be trying to be a bit pro-active now. It may be because of the difficulty Dawid Malan is having against the spin of Ravindra Jadeja. Hameed picks up a couple more, with some good running, after a flick through mid-wicket.

Here's how the England opener brought up his half-century earlier.

Oh, no no no. I'd never risk that. I've seen too many conspiracy theories.

It's one of those things, isn't it? It makes people nervous, for no real reason. Bit like the Bermuda Triangle.

    I don't think I've ever seen a wicket fall on 111.

It was a very uncharacteristic shot from Haseeb Hameed. He's been in the zone, in a bubble, for the entire time. He's trying to get back into it now, giving himself a little talking to.

  6. Eng 114-1published at 48 overs

    Target 368

The physio has been on to attend to Mohammed Siraj, although I'm not really sure what he can to help him. A few moments of composure, and some time to get over the embarrassment of dropping a simple catch, perhaps.

Ravindra Jadeja then oversteps - which is quite frankly unforgivable for a spinner - and Haseeb Hameed drives the extra ball out to the man on the cover boundary.

No other players are going over to him. They'd rather him take the catch than have it hit him in the gooly woolies.

It was a simple catch! And now he's in pain. It's hit him in an ... unprotected area.

  9. dropped catch

Hameed dropped on 55published at 47.5 overs

    This is a shocker.

Out of nowhere Haseeb Hameed decides to try and attack, and hit Ravindra Jadeja down the ground. He doesn't catch it cleanly at all, and it goes straight to Mohammed Siraj at mid-on, who misjudges it, drops it, and gets hit in a rather painful area.

That is quite frankly woeful from Siraj. It could prove to be a big moment.

Dom Morrison: Sadly this morning my grandpa John Morrison passed away at the ripe old age of 89. One of the last things he said to my dad (his son) when he was in hospital was that someone needed to tell Joe Root he wasn’t going to be able to open the bowling at the Oval.

Malan has not looked as secure as he did in the first innings. Perhaps he's been spooked by Jadeja.

  13. Eng 111-1published at 47 overs

    Target 368

Dawid Malan looks a bit nervous, and tentative here. He has a little fiddle at a wide delivery, that he really doesn't need to play at, and the ball just misses the outside edge.

It was a nothing shot from the left-hander, and the sort that he really doesn't need to be playing right now.

The players are taking drinks after the first hour of play. England have added 32 runs, and lost Rory Burns this morning.

England need another 259 runs to win, and India need nine wickets.

Who are you fancying? Thumbs up for England, thumbs down for India/draw.

Malan needs to be careful. He's ticking - he loves to hit through that off side.

  18. Eng 109-1published at 46 overs

At the opposite end, it is becoming more and more difficult against the spin of Ravindra Jadeja.

He gets one to slide on with the arm, into the pads of Dawid Malan, but the ball was going down the leg side.

He then finds some turn, and steep bounce, out of the rough and Malan has to back away and try and keep his hands low so the ball doesn't just loop up to the close fielders.

Malan has a wry smile on his face, and gives Jadeja a few nods of appreciation.

India have struggled with their line to the left-handers in this innings. Twice they allow Dawid Malan to work the ball off his hip, down to fine leg.

I know Shardul Thakur got the wicket, but it does look fairly easier to play, and certainly survive, against the seamers.
