The Oval is such a big ground that you can keep up with the run rate, sometimes even when you're not intending it. Burns' boundary there, the fielder was just ever so slightly in the wrong place and it still went for four.

India have gone very full to Haseeb Hameed this morning. He's happy to just smother the ball on that length, and defend the ball solidly into the ground. He's added four from 36 balls so far this morning.

Rory Burns picks up another single off his pads.

I don't want to jinx it, but there has been absolutely nothing so far this morning to suggest that England will lose 10 wickets today.

Jack, great that you have started with the intention of switching. I just have the one tab loaded up currently...

    Good over for England.

Rory Burns and Haseeb Hameed exchange singles, before Burns works the ball fine for his, and England's, second boundary of the day.

India are too short to Burns. He'll work you off his hip and pads all day long.

If England can just tick over at two or three an over in this morning session and not lose many wickets, that'll make a big dent in this day. There's still a lot of cricket to be played, of course - but The Oval isn't an easy ground to defend on.

The required run rate is 3.36 an over. It's nothing too stratospheric at the moment.

India have probably been a little bit too short to Rory Burns this morning. It is Jasprit Bumrah who is the guilty party this time, as Burns works through the leg side for a single again.

England have added nine runs in six overs this morning. It means the required run-rate is sneaking up, but it is helping to lay a platform for later in the day.

Haseeb Hameed looked a bit guilty though!

I'm not sure whether Yadav was entirely convinced with that. It was a loud appeal but that doesn't always mean confident. I think it was more a loud appeal of hope.

I was just about to say it has been a rather sedate start to the day, with nothing really troubling the England openers, and then there is an appeal!

Haseeb Hameed looks to work the ball down to the fine leg, and almost strangles it down the leg side. There is a delayed appeal from Rishabh Pant, before the rest join him, and all of a sudden it is pretty animated.

Alex Wharf shakes his head, and India wisely opt against the review. It didn't hit anything.

Back-to-back maidens to start for Jasprit Bumrah. He's bowling that third and fourth-stump line, testing the defence of Haseeb Hameed, but the England opener is equal to it at the moment.

You just get the feeling that those ones won't carry to slip. I think if you play with soft hands, you take the slips out of the game. Ollie Pope said this morning all the pace has gone from the pitch so you'd have to play a really firm drive for it to go to slip.

Rory Burns gets up and running for the day, with a single off his hips. You don't bowl there to Rory Burns.

Haseeb Hameed again works through the leg side, before Burns plays softly, and deliberately, in the gap between second slip and gully for the first boundary of the morning.

India have started much straighter today. They were too wide with the new ball last night, and it allowed England to leave, and score, at will.

The tourists seem to know that edges may not carry today, so lbw and bowled are their best shouts of picking up 10 England wickets.

A maiden to start for Jasprit Bumrah.
