    Target 368

It will be Jasprit Bumrah from the other end, and he starts with a yorker that Haseeb Hameed does well to dig out.

India are still without Rohit Sharma, who is struggling with a knee injury, and Cheteshwar Pujara, who twisted his ankle on Saturday. That means a changed slip cordon, and a lot less experience on the field.

It's supposedly a sell-out, but there are a lot of empty seats - miles more than at this time on any other day.

  4. Eng 78-0published at 33 overs

    Target 368

India, and Umesh Yadav, start very straight, targeting the stumps and pads of Haseeb Hameed.

The England opener gets the day up and running with a flick out to deep square.

    290 runs to go...

What did give me a bit of confidence was the ease with which these two got to 77 last night. They pretty much cruised there.

It is Umesh Yadav first up for India.

Will it be the spin of Ravindra Jadeja or the pace of Jasprit Bumrah at the other end?

Haseeb Hameed and Rory Burns are out in the middle. They blunted the India attack and saw off 32 overs of the new ball last night.

Can they keep going this morning and really lay a platform the likes of Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow and Ollie Pope to see England home later in the day?

Today has the hallmarks of being an all-time classic.

Anyone who knows me will know I very rarely get excited. I am excited for this today.

It is going to be a gripping, absorbing day of Test cricket, whichever way the result goes.

England's Ollie Pope on Test Match Special: "I can't predict the future but it's an exciting day ahead! All results are possible and we'll definitely be giving it a crack of chasing it down.

"I think it's important to take the scoreboard out of it in the first session and just bat. It's a good wicket, you don't have to do anything rash and it's a quick scoring ground. So we just need to get through that first session, not lose many wickets and if we need to up the tempo later in the day, we know it's possible.

"It's a packed house, the sun's out and it's set up for an exciting day. These are the days we play for."

Last night in Stephan's report and in a follow-up with Chris Woakes, we asked if you thought England would pull off this chase.

The results are in! Just under 60,000 of you were on England's side, with almost 48,000 of you thinking they wouldn't. Just over 10,000 thought it was too close to call.

We'll do a regular thumbs up and thumbs down vote throughout the day to gauge opinion!

Apart from those footmarks, the pitch looks pristine! It looks a belter, no marks on it at all as you'd usually expect on day five.

I've spoken about history this morning - this would sit right at the top of England's record run chases.

Ben Stokes' Headingley innings against the Aussies has had enough spotlight now, hasn't it?

It is time for another hero.

    England record run chases in Tests: 362 v Australia (2019), 315 v Australia (2001), 294 v New Zealand (2008), 284 v New Zealand (2004) and 282 v New Zealand (2004)Image source, Getty Images/BBC Sport

    Deep Dasgupta
Former India wicketkeeper on BBC Test Match Special

A lot will depend on Ravi Jadeja and how he bowls today. His first spell yesterday was very average. For India to win this Test match, they need at least three or four wickets from him.

There is some decent rough for him to work with for a left-arm spinner, so that will be quite challenging for the right-handed batsmen in particular.

  17. Postpublished at 10:50 British Summer Time 6 September 2021

    The game situation then...

England are 77-0, chasing 368 to pull off their record chase. India need 10 wickets.

There will be a minimum of 90 overs today and, weather and light permitting, we will get through them all with it being the final day. That means England need to score at 3.23 runs an over to win this game.

A draw is possible. A tie is possible. Anything could happen.

    Morning! How are you feeling?

Ok, I admit it, that first post was a bit tongue in cheek. But England do have a chance of winning this game and completing a record chase in the process.

All four results are possible. Get yourself comfortable - this is going to be a cracker.
