It has gone straight through Pope. It was through him a bit quickly. What a start to the afternoon session for India.

  3. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 64.5 overs

    Pope b Bumrah 2 (Eng 146-4)

    India on the charge.

It was bubbling - Bumrah just getting some movement in to the right hander, the only paceman to get anything from this old ball. Simply too good for Ollie Pope who turns around to see his stumps dismantled.

Two wickets that could have been prevented now. Hameed should have padded that away. Just play your natural game and put away the bad balls, see where we are at tea.

    Jon, Manchester

This has been a shameful 2 hours and 20 minutes of cricket from England. Seems they don't even know whether they're trying to go for the win or stick it out for the draw.

Another maiden for Jadeja, who gets through his overs very rapidly.

Lots of suggestions coming through on how England should approach this chase. Go for it or play it safe?

I wonder if this shot from Joe Root - the first after lunch - was an indication of his intentions.

Oh, Hannah. I think that's upset me more than Hameed's wicket.

Meanwhile Ollie Pope drives nicely for two to get off the mark. He's playing his shots already - nothing extravagant, but looking for bat on ball and getting on the front foot.

Hameed added just 20 runs today from 108 balls.

Ollie Pope the new man for England.

He played beautifully for his 81 in the first innings - how England need him to repeat it. But as Michael Vaughan just said, this is a good partnership for the home side if they are trying to up the scoring rate and go for the runs.

Hameed was just trying to give himself space to work it for a single. He played nicely but in a funny kind of way England have a better chance of winning now Hameed is out. If England really want to win Hameed has almost done his job in creating this platform.

  13. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 61.3 overs

    Hameed b Jadeja 63 (Ind 141-3)

    Another breakthrough for India!

Jadeja expertly utilises the rough outside Hameed's leg stump - the batter plays forward to defend but the ball spins past him and just clips the top of the stumps.

Hameed shakes his head in disappointment as he walks away.

237 runs would be a small target in a one-day international. Why is it so much harder in a Test match?

  15. Eng 140-2published at 61 overs

    Target 368

A pretty uneventful over until the final ball, which Hameed plays and misses at - a few gasps from India's fielders but Pant is nutmegged by the ball and they scamper a two.

Anyone who wants to know how to bat in these situations should watch Ricky Ponting's brilliant fourth-innings century at Old Trafford 2005. Saved the match but was always positive, reminding England that they couldn't just put men round the bat. Helps to be Ricky Ponting, though.
