Curran has absolutely strangled him! A long hop. A remarkable dismissal.

Curran has the look of a man who has burgled a wicket.

    Filth. Absolute filth.

Sam Curran has absolutely stolen a wicket here and he knows it. It's a long hop, an awful ball, and Kusal Perera has leaned back and slapped it straight down Jack Leach's throat at deep mid-wicket. Horrible. Absolutely horrible. Curran looks faintly embarrassed as he goes to celebrate.

Matt Prior and Alec Stewart both came to my grandpa's funeral. I know you asked for cricketing appearances at celebrations, but my grandpa was a Christian so the occasion did have a very celebratory feel!

Kusal Perera chases a Jack Leach delivery down the leg side and makes a horrible mess of his pull, but it drops short of Dom Sibley at leg gully.

Perera then sweeps, aerially but awkwardly, and gets two down to deep fine leg before bunting the next delivery in the same direction for four.

Lahiru Thirimanne has a loose shot at the penultimate ball of the over, needlessly throwing his arms at a wide delivery from SCurran. He castigates himself as Joe Root polishes the ball at slip.

Lahiru Thirimanne jogs a single first up, and poor Kusal Perera gets clattered in the ankle by a throw from Dom Bess at cover. Ouch.

While you're thinking about celebrations where you've bumped into cricketers, Sam Curran is going to have a bowl.

Dickie is, obviously, a massive figure in Barnsley, hence the statue.

Has anyone ever had a cricketer pop up at one of their birthday parties? Or have you bumped into someone at a wedding? There must be one of you out there who ended up wrestling with a cricketer at a wedding buffet for the last sausage roll?

Where's Matt Parkinson? Dom Bess is nothing more than a county 2nd XI bowler (that's why Somerset have shipped him out up north!) and you can't expect much from Jack Leach, who hasn't played Test cricket in over 12 months, bowling to two left-handers. The fact that Joe Root has looked our most dangerous spinner is shameful and worrying.

    Sam

Wish England had a leggy in the team either a proper one like Parkinson or someone who bowls filth but takes wickets like Denly.

Sri Lanka have played really well. They have been controlled. It is exactly what the doctor ordered.

I know you get a lot of statues at grounds, but are there any cricketing ones dotted about in your local towns?

If this day doesn't end in Dom Sibley and Dan Lawrence having a bowl then we've failed.

What a session for Sri Lanka.

I expected to be bringing you wicket updates, but Lahiru Thirimanne and Kusal Perera have dug deep and been superb to get through to tea without any real scares.

They've reduced the deficit to 196.

This is the highest opening partnership against England for almost three years, since David Warner and Cameron Bancroft's 122-run stand at the MCG in 2018.

England definitely think they can get Lahiru Thirimanne out caught round the corner, just flicking it away.

He got out like that in the first innings, and almost does the same this innings, albeit slightly squarer, but it falls just short of Zak Crawley.

Time for one more over before tea.
