  1. SL 134-1published at 49 overs

Ooft! Another top edged sweep, this time courtesy of Kusal Mendis, and the cries of catch are in vain as the ball drops into the vacant space at short fine leg.

That's a gimme, though, too short, and Mendis merrily cuts it for a smattering of runs.

YES, Paul. I would go into an essay about assuming male as the norm but I think I'm meant to talk about the cricket.

A little bit of the old England Test team has arrived today - a collapse and nothing from the spinners. And you can't afford to drop a Labuschagne or a Steve Smith in the Ashes.

Stuart Broad continues with his tight, stump to stump line, and works his way through another excellent maiden.

In 2017, a couple of weeks before the Champions Trophy began, I was on a run on Thames path. As I went under Hammersmith bridge I was cut off by Jos Buttler in a group of cyclists dressed as Luigi. Turned out they were on a stag do (stag dressed as Princess Peach) stopping off at every pub on the way to Twickenham rugby 7s. I was assured that Jos was on the lemonades...

Lahiru Thirimanne top edges a sweep just over the head of the close fielders, before Jack Leach spins a lovely delivery just past the outside edge of his bat.

Leach has to redo his final delivery after overstepping.

What would a psychotherapist make of the fact that Dee Baker (10.15) felt the need to put 'psychotherapist' in his sign-off for that message?

Gosh, I miss pubs. And socialising. And leaving the house.

A leggy single is cut off by Craig Overton on the boundary - I'm not quite sure who he's on for. Stuart Broad, who is very red in the fact, completes another tidy over. Four of his six overs have been maidens.

    Thirimanne 60, Mendis 3

Jack Leach is getting a good, long bowl, which he needs after spending last summer carrying the drinks.

Lahiru Thirimanne reverse sweeps, a little top edgy, but there's enough bat on ball to loop it over Joe Root's head at slip and pick up a couple of runs.
