I have fond memories of Galle. I played a couple of times there. I didn't wander around the fort too much, though.
Mathews 36, Chandimal 15
Dom Bess has a towel tucked into the back of his trousers to help him dry his fingers. His hair is drenched with sweat. Bess isn't gifted in the way Sir Alastair Cook was.
It's one of Bess' better overs. A maiden.

Speaking of spin, Dom Bess returns after Sam Curran's wicketless spell.

It hasn't spun as much on the first day as it did in the first Test. It will spin as the game goes on, but Sri Lanka have got a real opportunity here.
Four more off Anderson's bowling. Angelo Mathews gets a thick outside edge and the ball heads off to the wide third man boundary.
Eight from the over. Anderson's figures now stand at a terribly expensive 3-14 from 10.

Anderson will be cross about that. It's a bit of a gift on leg stump and it's the first boundary off his bowling.
JAMES ANDERSON HAS CONCEDED A RUN. I REPEAT, JAMES ANDERSON HAS CONCEDED A RUN.
In fact, it's actually four runs. Mathews flicks through mid-wicket.

Sam Curran is a very expressive bowler - he runs in like he's furious.
Anderson's old mate Broad is sat on the England bench in one of those yellow subs' bibs. He'll be glad of the shade at least.
Curran scurries in for an over and Sri Lanka add a couple to their total.

James Anderson hasn't bowled since August and it's as though he's never been away. It's quite remarkable.
Anderson 9-4-6-3
They have both been brilliant in this series but I do get what England are trying to do. I won't criticise them too much.
Another over, another maiden from Anderson. That's his fourth of the spell and possibly his last.

Wouldn't it be amazing if James Anderson and Stuart Broad played in the same team?!

Mathews 27, Chandimal 14
Curran bowls a bad ball and Chandimal takes advantage, clipping it off his two for his second four in the over.
Root could do with an Anderson at either end.
Shot. Dinesh Chandimal breaks a run of three successive maidens by driving Sam Curran through the covers to the boundary.
We haven't seen much of Mickey this morning. A real shame.
Joe Root applauds Anderson from slip.
Mathews has a nibble at the final ball of the over. Close but no edge. Anderson has 3-6 from eight overs.

Mickey Arthur might be wearing long trousers but I'm suspicious that they might be the 'special trousers' which you can only order from advertisements in Sunday supplement magazines. The sort that you can unzip the legs from. The sort that turn into super short shorts.

Sam Curran has so far resisted the urge to shave all his hair off for this tour of Asia. It must be hot under that thick mop.
Dinesh Chandimal gets out the exaggerated, Steve Smith-like leave. We'll have none of that please. There'll be enough of it next winter.
