I was just about to say Dom Sibley has looked very comfortable against the spin of Ravi Ashwin so far, but the offie almost sneaks one through but the England opener works a leading edge away for a single.

That will be drinks. That's the first tick for England - a really solid start from Rory Burns and Sibley.

In case you didn't know this is Joe Root's 100th Test match for England.

I enjoyed this tweet yesterday, he hasn't changed much has he? He's just got a tan. We can't hold the dodgy hair against him in the current circumstances.

    Burns 12, Sibley 12

Oooh! Run out opportunity for India.

Rory Burns just nudges one into the gully, and the bounce is perfect for Shahbaz Nadeem, who picks up and throws left-handed, but it is wild and England end up getting their single anyway.

Nadeem is involved again! But, what is he doing!?! He's at fine leg to Dom Sibley, and he successfully stops a boundary by treading on the ball. That could have done him some serious mischief.

David Hutton: My one year old has set the perfect alarm to wake up at 3.30. Set up with coffee, live feed and running ‘Dad’ commentary. Bat long fellas!

Andy Simpson: Well with a usual Friday alarm of 5am for online networking meeting, not too hard to move it to 3.45! Solid start by England making it worth it.

Rory Burns picks up a couple more as he manoeuvres Ravichandran Ashwin through square leg.

It is the first time a lot of these England players have played against India so they are learning about their bowlers on the job. Dan Lawrence, who is due to come in next, is looking at some analysis on a laptop with a member of the England backroom staff.

    Always learning.

That quiz question is a bit more difficult, and you don't have a picture to help you, so we'll give you until 05:15 GMT to try and work it out.

Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar and current national selector Ed Smith on TMS at the India v England Test back in 2016.

Gavaskar very much enjoyed watching India rack up 759-7 in that match.

But can you remember who scored a triple century for India in that game?

  9. Eng 17-0published at 9 overs

India have been a little bit wide to Dom Sibley so far, they haven't challenged his defensive technique anywhere near enough. Virat Kohli is trying to force his bowlers to bowl straighter though, with a short mid-on, but Ishant Sharma strays and it allows Sibley to flick a single to fine leg.

Rory Burns then picks up a single with another good bit of drop and run cricket.

Burns' rejection of the classic sub-continent tour head shave is magnificent. Mullets should be compulsory for all opening batsmen.

Ravichandran Ashwin drops a little bit short and that allows Dom Sibley to work him through the on side for another single. No major concerns for England in the first over of spin.

An early observation - the fake crowd noise on this TV coverage is TERRIBLE! It sounds like that fake ironic cheering crowds do when a side hasn't scored a run for a while.

  12. Eng 15-0published at 7.2 overs

Yes, Dom Sibley! He rocks onto the back foot and works Ashwin through third man for England's first boundary. Nice start.

Rory Burns picked up a single, off an inside edge, first up.

Tattz: This series is going to be fascinating. I’m going for a slightly more optimistic than I actually feel - 2-2 series draw. It totally depends on whether England’s top order and spinners come to the party.

Daniel Owens: Series score 2-2. Top run scorer Root/Kohli. Man of Series Ben Stokes. I can’t help but feel that if England are going to get a result in India, Ben Stokes is going to have to work his magic with ball & bat.

Shane O'Neill: I worry for England with Lawrence batting at #3 but will go for 2-1 to England with Root/Pope or Pujara top scoring and Ashwin with the most wickets/

  14. Eng 10-0published at 7 overs

Back-to-back maidens for India. England haven't scored a run off the bat in the last three overs, but they are doing their job.

So much so that Virat Kohli has had enough of pace and he's turning to Ravichandran Ashwin already. This is where the test begins for Dom Sibley and Rory Burns.

England last played a Test in Chennai back in 2016. The game was in serious doubt after Cyclone Vardah struck the city causing widespread damage. The pitch at the M.A. Chidambaram stadium was dried out using trays of hot coals.

    Burns 7, Sibley 2

Both Ishant Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah have gone around the wicket to Rory Burns. They know he likes width, and if they go too straight from over the wicket he'll clip them away all day.

This is the difference between Sri Lanka and India, though. The bowlers give you very few bad balls so you have to work hard for your runs.

Stuart Broad is having a yawn in the dugout. I don't think we're going to get a fired-up TV rant today. Sadly.

As promised, the answer to Adam Mountford's question from 04:12 GMT is all-rounder Liam Dawson.

The Hampshire man has gone on to play two more Tests.

Kiran: England gonna badly lose this first Test, bring in Moeen Ali and he'll score the most runs, take the most wickets and win the series 3-1 for England, and therefore be man of the series.

Duncan Owen: Good toss to win. Hoping England’s batting makes waking up at this time worth it!

Cassini: Good to see Rory Burns back. I would cross my fingers for him to score big but it’s far too early for anything that doesn’t involve being curled up on the sofa.

  19. Eng 10-0published at 5 overs

This is Ishant Sharma's first Test in almost 12 months. He missed the whole Australia tour with an abdominal muscle tear.

He oversteps on his fourth delivery, but the extra delivery almost brings him the breakthrough as he gets one to jag past the outside edge of Dom Sibley.

Sibley gives him a little nod of appreciation.
