Well, well, well. It wouldn't be England without some chaos would it?

They were in complete and utter control 15 minutes ago, but those two late wickets have probably made that India's session.

That's me done for the time being. Matt Henry will take you through the afternoon session.

Before the potential run out Joe Root had sent a leading edge through the covers too. Ten minutes ago England looked in complete control, all of a sudden India are all over them.

That'll be lunch. India's session? Or honours even?

  3. Not outpublished at 06:03 Greenwich Mean Time 5 February 2021

    Joe Root is home.

Wow. That was a totally unnecessary single on the stroke of lunch, having just lost two wickets.

India don't look too confident after the initial screams of excitement.

  5. Umpire reviewpublished at 06:01 Greenwich Mean Time 5 February 2021

    Surely not!

Have India got Joe Root run out here?

The question that I ask is 'Would Sir Alistair Cook have played that shot?'... we all know the answer!

Hawkeye shows that Dan Lawrence dismissal was hitting the middle of middle stump. You don't really get much more dead than that.

Joe Root gets off the mark straight away with a back foot steer through point.

We've time for one more over before lunch.

    Lawrence lbw b Bumrah 0 (Eng 63-2)

The return to Jasprit Bumrah has worked! That is absolutely plumb.

There's a little bit of movement back in for Bumrah, perhaps even reverse, and it cannons into Lawrence's pads and he is dead in front. He chats to Dom Sibley but they wisely opt against the review.

That is Bumrah's first Test wicket in India, and it brings the key man, Joe Root, in his 100th Test, to the crease.

With Dan Lawrence in, playing only his third Test and batting at three for the first time since 2017, Virat Kohli has turned back to the pace of Jasprit Bumrah.

There's just over five minutes till lunch.

Dom Sibley sees out a maiden from Shahbaz Nadeem.

He's made 26 from 93 balls so far.

    Moff: Ugh why doooo that.

Tom Huffinley: I mean, seriously? After such a good start that’s a pathetic dismissal.

Sai Sreekar: Careless shot from Rory Burns, who was looking in good form and throwing away wicket.

    Burns c Pant b Ashwin 33 (Eng 63-1)

    Rory Burns, that is terrible.

India had changed the field after that boundary, plugging the gap, and bringing someone from point to leg slip. Burns, enticed by the gap in the off side, decides to reverse sweep but gloves it up in the air and it is simple catch for Rishabh Pant.

That has undone some of the hard work England have done this morning.

    Shot!

Rory Burns takes one step down the track and guides Ravi Ashwin between mid on and mid-wicket for four more.

Virat Kohli has got the tea pot out.

    Burns 29, Sibley 26

I started the live by saying this was England's biggest challenge under Joe Root and Chris Silverwood and we'd find out more about where this side actually is. So far it is a challenge they are meeting.

Shahbaz Nadeem has been tidy, without threatening so far, but he finishes a no ball. That is the third of the day already. India have been a bit sloppy so far.

Citizen: Stop fixing the scores BBC! We are not stupid enough to believe England didn't lose an opener while scoring 50. Make your lies more believable!

  18. Eng 57-0published at 22 overs

A bit of encouragement for India and Ravi Ashwin.

He goes round the wicket to Dom Sibley and he flicks one just past short leg, probably where leg slip would have been. Virat Kohli, sporting an excellently groomed beard as usual, purses his lips in frustration.

Rory Burns gives him some encouragement too, as he gets down and sweeps, exposing his middle and leg stump, but he moves up four.

    Burns 25, Sibley 25

I praised India for having a leg gully to Dom Sibley earlier, but they've now got two men in on the drive to the spinner. I'm not sure about that. I can probably count on one hand the amount of drives that Sibley has played in Test cricket so far. It just isn't one of this shots.

The Warwickshire opener keeps the strike with a nudge into the on side.
