Let's give England some credit here. They have batted for almost two days against one of Test cricket's best attacks at this moment in time who have just beaten Australia away. I remember England used to get blown in away in about two sessions a couple of summers ago!

Ravichandran Ashwin is coming on to bowl the final over of the day from this end.

Bess then blocks out the rest of the over.

Jasprit Bumrah looks absolutely exhausted. 30 overs in this heat is some workload.

Jasprit Bumrah is back on and Dom Bess guides his first ball to the boundary through gully.

Bess is a little fighter ain't he?

Leach danced down the wicket like a latter-day Graeme Pollock.

Leach is then in behind the final four balls of the over.

He's put on 20 with Dom Bess now. These are all useful runs for England.

    Hello, Jack Leach!

He takes a step down the track and whacks Washington Sundar for four over mid-off.

He didn't get all of it, but good shot and intent from Leach.

This is the highest score by a visiting team in India since November 2011 when West Indies racked up 590 in Mumbai.

Four more from Dom Bess as he flicks to the fine leg boundary again.

He's added 24 handy runs. Perhaps more importantly he's faced 71 balls too. The longer England are out there the more the pitch will deteriorate and become trickier to bat on.

There are four overs left in the day.

Perth Scorchers have made an, erm, scorching start to their reply to Sydney Sixers' 188-6 in the Big Bash final. They are 43-0 after four overs, with Cameron Bancroft looking in good touch.

  14. Postpublished at 10:55 Greenwich Mean Time 6 February 2021

The pitch has been tough for India, but I haven't been that impressed by them in the field.

That was an horrendous drop, their ground fielding has been average at best and their use of the review system was abysmal.

    They've got to improve.

Rohit, what have you done? Maybe it's all a strategy because he doesn't want to come out and open the batting.

    Eng 537-8

That is an absolute sitter from Rohit Sharma!

Dom Bess hits the ground as he tries to flick away through mid-wicket and it just tamely chips to Rohit at mid-wicket and it just pops out. Terrible.

It has just given us a FANTASTIC shot of Ben Stokes though, open-mouthed, aghast in the England changing room.

The pitches on India have changed dramatically these days. It suits the fast bowlers a bit more now because India have such a huge depth of seamers so the pitches are prepared for them.

  18. Eng 535-8published at 174 overs

Leggy from Ishant Sharma and Dom Bess gets a thick edge to help it on its way to the fine leg boundary. Useful runs for England.

Jeeze! Almost 300 Test wickets for Ishant. He gets another one to swing in, and Dom Bess leaves it, a la Jos Buttler, and the ball just misses off stump by a couple of inches. Superb bowling.

Then an lbw appeal! It's all happening. That was going down on the angle I think.

That may be Ishant done for the day. He looks tired.

I don't know who will be more happier that the pitch is turning, Washington Sundar or Dom Bess.
