Getting on with it is hard. Showing intent is not so hard - and they're not doing that - but actually connecting with it and getting on with it is challenging.

Better! Jos Buttler gets on the back foot and sends Ravichandran Ashwin to the cover boundary.

    It's a no-ball too. That's 27 in the game for India.

Simon may well be right, but surely you show intent while doing it and if you get bowled out and end up with 15 overs then so be it?

    Surely?

    Intent!

Dom Bess comes down the track, misses it, and then the ball just rears and Rishabh Pant gets his gloves absolutely nowhere near it.

Masterclass from India. They’ve kept Bess on strike - and he’s now faced more balls than Buttler. I think Buttler’s got to guide this, and do a Dhoni!

Again just a single off the over.

England have added 14 runs in eight overs.

Surely that in itself is telling us that the pitch isn't that easy to score on so do England already have enough?

I think Joe Root is getting India into a position where they cannot win the game, meaning they'll be more timid in their footwork knowing they can't win and that will create chances. I'd go the other way and dangle the carrot.

I'm looking at the tweets being sent to us and I feel like I've done 12 rounds with Mike Tyson. There's a lot of anger and frustration at England's tactics here.

Craig Nicoll: This is awful, no intensity at all. Pope came out playing his T20 game trying to score quickly, Bess is out there padding it away and playing like he’s trying to salvage a draw.

David Christian Rose: He's still padding up. Someone remove him from the game.

Ross Matthewman: I’m getting bored of shouting “do something!” at the England batters. They could at least pretend to be trying to score runs?

I don't really understand why the approach has changed since Ollie Pope got out.

He wasn't reverse sweeping out of the rough because it was a strength, or the best way of him playing on the wicket. He was doing it in the hope of scoring runs.

Dom Bess obviously isn't the batsman that Pope is, but he seems content blocking. He doesn't have to be aggressive but surely he looks to nudge and nurdle and get Jos Buttler on strike?

West Indies chased down 322, external in 2017 to beat England.

I know Headingley can be a difficult place to bat, but Headingley and Chennai are a bit different.

    Get on with it, Joe.

Do you think Joe Root is still scarred by the West Indies at Headingley in 2017?

This Test and Test cricket in general has had a lot of praise, and rightly so, but this last 20 minutes or so has been bizarre.

Trying to explain this to someone who doesn't like cricket would be a challenge.

I had a look at England's attack which conceded 387 against India in the fourth innings in 2008: Graeme Swann, Monty Panesar, James Anderson, Andrew Flintoff and Steve Harmison!

This game is meandering at the moment. England don't appear in any apparent rush and India most definitely are not. England do at least pick up five runs from that over.

In better news, a colleague, who I'm trying to get into cricket, has just sent me a photo of them watching it on their day off. Mission successful.
