    Lead by 408

I didn't think we'd be seeing Jofra Archer and Jack Leach batting with 45 minutes to close when we started batting just before lunch.

There are in theory still 23 overs left today. We can play till 11:30 GMT.

I can hear a chorus of England supporters shouting 'give him out!'

    Bess lbw b Nadeem 25 (Eng 167-8)

Three reds and Dom Bess is out.

Dom Bess looks perplexed as he walks off. I think, after seeing the replay, he is convinced that is bat first. I must admit I thought it was too.

  4. Postpublished at 10:12 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2021

    Ohhh, is it bat first?

He definitely jars his bat on his pad on the way through, but does it glance off the bat before hitting the pad.

UltraEdge for this is going to be a nightmare.

  5. England reviewpublished at 10:11 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2021

Dom Bess has been give out lbw, but he reviews it.

He seems reluctant to review it, mind.

If India chase more than 400 on a pitch like this then you've got to give a lot of credit. Two or three batsmen from the Indian dressing room will have to play the innings of their life.

He tried to hit that over the stand. Even Rishabh Pant wasn't going to miss that stumping, it was a straightforward one.

  10. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 41.2 overs

Buttler st Pant b Nadeem 24 (Eng 165-7)

Jos Buttler comes charging down the track, looking to hit Shahbaz Nadeem out of the ground, but loses his shape, and Rishabh Pant completes a routine stumping.

In comes Jofra. If he blocks here I'm going to lose it.

Pakistan have wrapped up the second Test against South Africa, winning by 95 runs to take a 2-0 series win despite the best efforts of Aiden Markram, who scored his first Test century since 2018.

The last three wickets fell in just ten balls, with Hasan Ali finishing with five wickets and Shaheen Afridi bagging four. You can read the full report here.

Four more from Dom Bess! It's short and wide from Ravichandran Ashwin and Bess cuts to the boundary.

Joe Root is back from his chat and he's sat back down, alongside Jofra Archer who is still padded up.

They've just lost their way, haven't they? Having played so refreshingly positively, I don't know what's happened here. Even Buttler's fallen behind, they must have been spooked.

    Oh! We've got movement.

Joe Root has got up, summoned Chris Silverwood, and the pair have gone off for a chat.

It may start with "why is Dom padding up when we lead by 400" but hopefully it finishes with a decision about the declaration.

And again! It's a slog sweep this time.

England's lead is past 400. Joe Root is still sat down, calm as you like, in the changing room.

    Five dots follow.

The friend I mentioned at 09:38 has just messaged again saying "what is that awful noise" about the no-ball klaxon. She's not wrong, and we've been listening to it repeatedly with India. I'm looking forward to seeing what Virat Kohli says about his side at the end of the game - they've been pretty poor and ill-disciplined at times in this Test.
