How are you doing? Up nice and early?

I'll be honest, I watched the first session in bed.

  4. Postpublished at 06:22 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2021

    Many thanks, Matthew.

It seems that India's response to losing the first Test has been to ask for the second to be played in a sandpit.

I need a breather after all that. Stephan Shemilt is here to take over. It seems his luck of avoiding these early mornings has run out.

Just waking up? You have missed an action-packed morning session.

India have scored 106 runs but England will be pretty happy with their three wickets.

Olly Stone, playing his second Test, had Shubman Gill out lbw with his third ball of the day.

The imperious Rohit Sharma then led an India recovery alongside Cheteshwar Pujara but the hosts slipped from 85-1 to 86-3 in dramatic fashion.

Jack Leach had Pujara caught at slip and in the following over Moeen Ali bowled Virat Kohli for a duck with a ball that turned a mile. Kohli couldn't believe it and stood there in bemusement.

We're only at lunch on day one and there are signs of this pitch breaking up. Rohit has added to the drama by reaching 80 from 78 balls.

Arjun Singh: I know it’s early days, but Olly Stone has been sensational.

Rohit has rattled along like he's batting in a one-day international but England will be very, very happy with the three wickets. Rohit and Pujara took India to 85-1 and things were looking bleak for the tourists.

Olly Stone has been very good for England.

Cassini: Considerate of India to produce a pitch that will end a game in three days, meaning less early morning wake-up calls for England fans, how nice of them.

  10. Lunch - Ind 106-3published at 26 overs

    Rohit 80, Rahane 5

Rahane sways out of the way of a 92mph bouncer from Stone. That is lunch.

It has been a thrilling morning. Rohit v England.

England have a leg slip, leg gully and now Rory Burns comes in at short leg...

  12. Ind 106-3published at 25.5 overs

Is there just a tiny bit of reverse swing? I think so.

One ball to go. Stone to Rahane...

  13. Ind 105-3published at 25.2 overs

Edged again, this time by Rohit. It goes through a gap in the slips for four.

India have four more balls to survive.

  14. Ind 101-3published at 25.1 overs

    "Catch it!!" ... Almost.

Olly Stone is back for the final over before the break and the ball flies agonisingly out of the reach Ollie Pope under the lid on the leg side.

    Rohit 75, Rahane 4

I wouldn't bother cancelling plans for day five. I'm already eyeing switching off my 3am alarm a day early. This has been an all-action morning session.

There'll be one more over before lunch.

  17. Ind 100-3published at 24.3 overs

Rohit Sharma is some player. A sensational drive off Leach takes him to 75 from 73 balls.

The crowd hasn't gone home. They are still here.

Cheers greet a swept four from Rohit who continues to look a million dollars.
