We are now going to be doing a lot of squinting at the screen, however, to work out if it's hit the ground before hitting the boot.

Lawrence has stayed back to Axar Patel and absolutely middled the ball onto the foot of Shubnam Gill...

...and the ball has then flown up into his hand! Gosh, that's unlucky.

  3. Umpire reviewpublished at 09:45 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2021

    Oh, is that another?

I think there's been another corker of a catch at short leg to see off Dan Lawrence.

    Soft signal is out...

What did Ashwin have for his tea, and can I have some? A ridiculously good post-tea spell.

Dom Bess pops away the final two balls of the over.

Ben Foakes will be disappointed, but it's not a soft dismissal. It's good bowling.

    Great catch!

Well, this is all unravelling rather quickly. Ben Foakes is the man to go, pressing forward and watching the ball spin rather tamely off his outside edge and towards Ajinkya Rahane, who takes a back-breaking low catch at slip.

As a batsman you should not be too worried about the ball that turns really sharply past your edge. You should play for the straight ball and make sure you don't get bowled or out lbw. If Axar Patel spins it big, it's going to spin so much it goes past the bat.

  8. Eng 168-6published at 65 overs

Axar Patel continues to spin his way around every side of Dan Lawrence's bat.

Mike Bell: That was desperately hard on Ollie Pope. In fact, having worked in employment law back in the day, I'd say he has a strong case for unfair dismissal.

Once someone points out Dan Lawrence's box-fiddling habit after every delivery, you really can't unsee it.

England will grab anything over 200 now.

  12. Eng 167-6published at 63 overs

England's last three partnerships have been worth 48, 43 and 45. Good starts, but those are the partnerships you need to go on; to go big and define an innings. Not to be.

This is now England's longest run in their Test history without a stand of 50. They haven't had one in the last two Tests or so far today.

Ben Foakes has come out to join Dan Lawrence.

I'm still ruminating on Ollie Pope's dismissal. It's like he's half-nutmegged himself. The ball has gone off the inside edge of the bat, onto the top of his pad on the back leg, and then straight to short leg, who did not have to move a muscle.

Oh that is unlucky. He's got an inside edge, it's hit his back knee and then popped up.

    Out.

This is a properly horrid way to go. Poor Ollie Pope looks stunned. He's inside edged the ball onto his back leg as he's come down the wicket and the ball has then ballooned up behind him and into the hands of the waiting short leg. Ouch.

  18. Postpublished at 09:26 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2021

Pope was coming forward, on the move, and it's a really horrid dismissal...

  19. Umpire reviewpublished at 09:25 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2021

Oh, this is out. Ollie Pope, caught at short leg after getting into a horrible tangle.

Is it? The umpires are sending it upstairs. Soft signal is out.

  20. Eng 166-5published at 61.2 overs

Another lbw appeal from Ravichandran Ashwin, this time against Ollie Pope, but it's turning too much to trouble the umpire, before the next ball coems on quicker and leaves Pope almost toppling over as he tries to defend.
