This has been my concern with this England team for a while. They get worse against quality opposition over the course of a series.

They should have batted the full 90 overs and been about 250-5 on that pitch. They've missed a big opportunity.

Mart: Prediction for the tour of Australia is England will do well to restrict it to a 3-1 win to Aussies. Too much swapping of players has not helped. Batting not scoring decent first inns and only having one true quick in Archer (injury prone) will not help.

I completely get the team selection. But it's been the most disappointing day of the winter. You expect to beat Sri Lanka. India rightly outskilled England in the second and third Tests. And the third Test wicket was not a Test-quality pitch. But this pitch is and for 60 overs it did very little.

Of course it's difficult, especially facing these spinners and in bubble life. For Zak Crawley to dance down and gift a spinner who's had England on toast an early wicket is not right. It's a really disappointing day.

Full credit to India. They bowled better today than they have in the rest of the series.

Bill: From the outset I thought anything less than a 4-0 whitewash would be a reasonable result for England. With a far from settled line-up, they are playing the best team in the world in conditions alien to most of the players. No disgrace in losing 3-1. Chin up everyone.

BR: Siraj, Bumrah, Shami, Ishant, plus this young fearless batting line-up. I think India have a serious chance when they come here in the summer.

I really like Pujara. Something so reassuring about watching him bat and just going about everything in his own way.

Jack Leach will bowl the final over of the day.

Honestly, every time that no ball klaxon goes off, I jump out of my skin.

Hello! Cheteshwar Pujara fends a little awkwardly at this latest delivery from Dom Bess, and it drops just short of Ollie Pope at short leg.

Pujara wanders down to Bess' first delivery and pushes it straight back past him, where it's fielded by Anderson down at long-on.

Oh, and it's a no ball! Ouch.

There's two overs left in the day, and Dom Bess is going to bowl one of them.

Every time this England group - and it has changed a bit in fairness - never seem to have got better while on a four or five-Test tour against a strong side. They always seem to get worse against the likes of India or Australia.

Down the pitch comes Cheteshwar Pujara and he ends up turning the ball much finer than he intended past the outstretched hand of the short leg fielder.

It's then Rohit Sharma's turn to tickle Jack Leach fine through the slip cordon and away for a smattering of runs.

Rohit Sharma can't cash in as James Anderson overpitches, and the bowler pulls off a good stop in his follow through to make in five maidens in a row.

Jimmy Anderson, incidentally, has figures of 4-4-0-1, which is pretty impressive. Aging like a fine wine.

That'll be four for Pujara, as he leans back and, with the finest of touches, runs Leach away through backward point. Lovely stuff.
