This is Ben Stokes' 34th score of 50 and above in Test cricket. It is also his fifth against India.

He brought up his half-century from 114 balls, which is the fifth slowest of his half-centuries.

India are slightly in retreat. Yes, there's a slip and a leg slip for Stokes, but there are also men out for both kinds of sweep. England have an opportunity for a partnership. If you want to compare this pitch to the last Test, it's like watching two different sports.

Steve in Portsmouth: Was guest speaker at a H&S meeting, got called out as I had parked car wrong way round! Reversing out of a space is dangerous apparently. I did think the damage had already been done, but dutifully slunk out of the meeting to turn it round.

    I know what you're thinking.

What is Phil Tufnell's 'nice' car? How many has he got, and what are the 'not nice' cars?

I have a 'nice' pair of trainers. Is this the same thing?

This is exactly the sort of innings England want. Stokes just has to occupy the crease. He has looked pretty solid.

Battle within a battle, as Axar goes round the wicket to test Stokes' patience.

After a couple of failed sweeps, Stokes pulls out the reverse to go to 51 from 114 balls.

Super knock. He looks a different Ben Stokes to what we have seen previously in this series.

I was having a new cooker fitted yesterday and the guy reversed into my car. And it was my nice car too! I was gutted.

Back in the days when we worked in the office, there was once an email sent to all staff saying someone's car had rolled down the ramp in the car park, causing a blockage. An energetic Kohli throws the ball to Pope's end. When the wicket is broken, there's a delay while some repairs are carried out. Stokes is on 47...

I was once stood at Dean Court waiting for the Bournemouth kick off when the tannoy announcer asked "Could the owner of car reg ABC123D please return to your vehicle? You've left your engine running". How does that work?

Pope has to hurry when calling for a single off Axar, but the replay shows he's well home before the direct hit breaks the stumps. This pair have added 30 since Bairstow was dismissed.

The opposite of packed. Wantage Road, Northants v. Derbyshire in the Championship. Called to the car park over the tannoy 20 minutes before play started to find an elderly gentleman had managed to hit my car while parking next to me... there were our cars on the entire car park!

With Sundar turning it, Stokes has had a couple of swipes.

When he eventually makes contact, the ball disappears over deep mid-wicket.

This is a superb contest. Stokes is carrying England at the moment.

Occasionally, the spin bowlers are starting to float a couple of deliveries wider, because they've seen it start to turn. As a spinner, you sometimes have to lure the batsmen a bit.

  15. Eng 101-4published at 07:42 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2021

There's now spin at both ends. The lesser-spotted Washington Sundar has ripped one past Stokes' edge and the long-limbed Axar is causing jitters for Ollie Pope. A good time for England to have a drink.

Prashant: Looking at the pitch now, at least for India's first Innings, are England a pace bowler short? Especially if England don't bat long enough in their first Innings! Can Stokes bowl long enough spells? He has hardly bowled any overs this series.

On The Cricket Social, Elly Oldroyd has just revealed that she has caused a kerfuffle at The Oval by parking her car the wrong way around. I'm not entirely sure how you can park your car the wrong way around, but it does lead to the strange thought of an announcement being made across an empty stadium. Let me know if you've ever been summoned from a packed ground. Car parking, someone in labour, etc.
