Moeen Ali is 33, has 189 Test wickets and before his struggles in 2019 was by far one of the most effective spin bowlers in the world. England should still be looking at him as a long-term option in their Test team.

Dom Bess is folornly practising his bowling down on the boundary edge. It's just made me a bit sad, actually. Trying to figure out why things aren't going your way in the middle of a Test match cannot be fun.

Well then. The first 50 partnership of this match comes up, from exactly 100 balls. Michael Vaughan said earlier that whichever team gets a half-century stand first, wins the game.

Graham Wright: Having watched Pant throughout the winter, he really is a terrific, exciting player. He feels like the player England think Buttler is.

    Shot!

Rishabh has had enough of this patting around malarkey and gets down low to slog-sweep Jack Leach's final ball for a handsome four.

This partnership is worrying me - it's on 41 now and I said the first team to make a 50 partnership wins the game.

That is a... brave leave from Rishabh Pant, as Joe Root gets one to turn just past his off stump. It's not missed by much at all.

This is Rishabh Pant's fifth score of 50 or more in his last six Tests.

    There it is!

An easy single for the India wicketkeeper and he jogs through for his seventh Test half-century. Tremendously entertaining, and he's done a great rescue job for India so far.

This is a massive hour of the game and England should bowl their best bowlers - James Anderson, Ben Stokes and Jack Leach. Do not gift India 20-30 runs off Joe Root and Dom Bess, just because they are off-spinners and there are two left-handers in.

Joe Root strikes Washington Sundar on the pad and then has what looks like an existential crisis over whether to review it or not. He doesn't.

The best thing for Dom Bess to do now is have a full County Championship season for Yorkshire where he bowls 40 overs a game and bats at six and seven.

I'm disappointed with the way England have managed him.

Amazing. I wonder if we can reunite the Midsomer Murders cricket team?

Jack Leach drags a delivery down, sees it get hoicked for a very enthusiastic single by Rishabh Pant, and then the no ball buzzer goes off.

Bloke I used to work with was the batsman in that very over, Johnny. He proudly showed us the episode. Not sure he had held a bat much before the scene, mind (rich from me).

Rishabh Pant is doing a bit of stretching to his left leg. He's within touching distance of a half-century.
