  1. England women updatepublished at 04:29 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2021

England are rattling towards victory now.

Having been 30-2 in their chase of 124 to beat New Zealand, they are 98-2 after 14. The stand between Tammy Beaumont and captain Heather Knight is worth 68.

  2. Ind 34-1published at 18 overs

    Trail by 171

Ben Stokes bowls two full tosses in a row, gets away with the first one, and then watches the second get absolutely larruped by Rohit Sharma for four.

  3. Ind 28-1published at 17 overs

There's some good carry from James Anderson but there's nothing to trouble the batsmen, or the umpires, as of yet. Might be a long day, this.

Tammy Beaumont, who this week went to the top of the women's ODI batting rankings, has just reached 50 from 39 balls in Wellington, with six fours and a six.

England are also chasing 124 to beat New Zealand and are 78-2 after 11 overs in the first T20.

  5. Ind 28-1published at 16 overs

Cheteshwar Pujara is miming the ball bouncing up and down, and then gets quite a surprise as Ben Stokes bends his back and the ball just about glides past his gloves.

I have no evidence for this but I feel like Pujara gets struck a lot by short balls? I seem to remember him being peppered by Australia and taking blow after blow. Ouch.

  6. Ind 27-1published at 15 overs

James Anderson has a less than gruntled expression on his face as Cheteshwar Pujara is able to leave the final two ball of the over well alone.

One of the TV commentators has just said that India's tactic for the first few overs will be to "not lose a wicket". Which, to be fair, is a good tactic.

  7. Ind 26-1published at 14 overs

Ben Stokes is sporting the sort of haircut that I remember a lot of 90s boyband members wearing. Very Peter Andre-esque.

Anyway, he's started with a maiden.

Ben Stokes is going to have a bowl.

  9. Ind 26-1published at 13 overs

Hello. Shape back in for Anderson, albeit too high to trouble the umpire, before a healthy outside edge goes all along the ground to the fielder at backward point.

Anderson ends a good over with a half-hearted lbw shout that hasn't got much going for it.

  10. Ind 26-1published at 12.1 overs

Anderson coughs up his first runs of the innings as Rohit Sharma clips a friendly loosener off his pads for a couple.

James Anderson will get things going for England this morning, with two slips and a gully lurking.

    Let's go.

  13. 'Hardest conditions I've faced'published at 03:55 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2021

England all-rounder Ben Stokes, who made 55, speaking yesterday: "I've told some of the youngest batters in our team these are the hardest conditions I've faced as a batsman.

"We do try to put the previous results behind us but it's easier said than done.

"We're more than capable of scoring at least 300 on that pitch. We're disappointed and it's frustrating but we can't dwell on it too much."

There's already cricket happening, with England women taking on New Zealand in the penultimate T20 against the White Ferns.

England are in good shape, too - career-best figures of 4-23 from Freya Davis has meant they limited the White Ferns to 123-9, with their chase just getting under way.

You can catch up on the action from Wellington here.

Here's where we are: India will resume on 24-1, trailing England by just 181 runs.

England struck with the third ball of the innings - thank you, James Anderson - but this is a decent batting track and the tourists know they failed to make the most of it yesterday.

So what damage can they do?
