How much credit does the captain have in the bank? Needs to start turning up with the bat and we can no longer point to his captaincy as a defence if the team perform like this.

Maybe he Curran is right to turn down the singles. He smacks the next ball for four.

  3. Eng 243-9published at 40.3 overs

Tom Curran is turning down singles! He fancies himself as an all-rounder.

Adam Savoury: If anyone needed any clarification of why Joe Root plays ODI cricket for England, this batting display provides it.

  5. Eng 243-9published at 40 overs

Need 75 runs from 60 balls

If Joe Root hadn't been rested it may have been a different story. He is their nudger in chief. I'm not going to say England should change their approach when it has won them a World Cup.

Sam Hirst: This has been such a poor last 20 overs from England. All that was needed was someone just to nudge it around with Bairstow once Roy fell after being so far ahead of the game.

    Rashid c Rahul b Bhuvneshwar 0 (Eng 241-9)

India are almost there. It's Bhuvi again with a beaut that finds Adil Rashid's outside edge. This has been a miserable collapse from England.

Some updates from the India camp...

Shreyas Iyer subluxated his left shoulder in the eighth over while fielding. He has been taken for further scans and won't take any further part in the game.

Rohit Sharma was hit on the right elbow while batting and felt some pain later. He won't take the field either.

  10. Eng 240-8published at 39 overs

    Target 318

Adil Rashid is out there now and 78 runs are still needed.

Krunal Pandya finishes with 1-59 to add to his half-century earlier.

    S Curran c sub (Gill) b K Pandya 12 (Eng 239-8)

It's all falling apart. Sam Curran holes out at long-on trying to smack Krunal Pandya into the stands. England were cruising this game. Now they're subsiding.

Tom Curran defends. The required rate is still do-able.

  15. Eng 239-7published at 37.4 overs

There isn't a lot of chatting on the England bench. Chris Silverwood, Eoin Morgan and Adil Rashid are all staring into space.

MJ Burt: India are a team in ascendancy, exuding confidence and backed up by a endless conveyor belt of quality batters and bowlers. England look the opposite, this tour has been one of regression and growing doubt exacerbated by a seemingly very shallow talent pool.

It's the Curran family v India now. Tom joins Sam in the middle.

  18. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 37.1 overs

    Moeen c Rahul b Bhuvneshwar 30 (Eng 237-7)

The commentator's curse strikes. Moeen is out and England are really struggling now. You guessed it, it's Bhuvneshwar Kumar again with a good short ball that takes a thin edge.

  19. Eng 237-6published at 37 overs

    Need 81 from 78 balls

A Moeen Ali special. The ball whistles back down the ground to the long-on boundary. Krunal Pandya berates himself. It'd be so good to see Moeen pull this off.
