That's a big, big wicket in the context of this match.

James Hildreth is trapped in front and Somerset are eight down leading by just 145.

Marchant de Lange is the next man in and he hits a long ball. It'll be interesting to see what his approach will be in these circumstances.

  2. Postpublished at 17:34 British Summer Time 17 April 2021

    Kent 265-9 v Yorkshire 379 & 291-3

    Ooof no thanks!

Joe Root finally misses one as he attempts a reverse sweep. The ball only just bounces over the off-stump.

Root is on 95 now from 130. Harry Brook is on 39 at the other end.

  3. Postpublished at 17:29 British Summer Time 17 April 2021

    Kent 265-9 v Yorkshire 379 & 278-3

Joe Root moves to 90 not out.

Kent have bowled just three maidens in 68 overs. It's been all Yorkshire today.

  4. Postpublished at 17:23 British Summer Time 17 April 2021

    Nottinghamshire 273 & 260 v Warwickshire 201-9 & 13-1

Stuart Broad celebratesImage source, Rex Features

Stuart Broad has his fourth wicket of the day, trapping Rob Yates for two.

Brilliant from Broad, and Warwickshire's Hanuma Vihari is the new man in at three. I don't think we'll see Dom Sibley today then. He's a doubt with a finger fracture.

  5. wicket

WICKET Smith (b Ackermann) 123published at 17:21 British Summer Time 17 April 2021

    Surrey 575-6 v Leicestershire 375

Moments after stretching Surrey's lead over Leicestershire to 200, Jamie Smith is out.

A fine 123 from 148 balls, featuring 15 fours and three sixes.

  6. Postpublished at 17:19 British Summer Time 17 April 2021

    Kent 265-9 v Yorkshire 379 & 252-3

Joe Root has somehow reached 81 under the radar.

He hasn't broken sweat at all today. Blink and you'll miss him, the England captain is just 19 away now from what would be yet another classy century.

  7. 50 runs

50 for Nick Gubbinspublished at 17:17 British Summer Time 17 April 2021

    Hampshire 319 & 290-4 dec v Middlesex 79 & 125-3

That's fifty for Nick Gubbins, who's played a really battling hand for Middlesex here.

Here and Robbie White have put on 92 for the fourth wicket in tough circumstances.

  8. Postpublished at 17:16 British Summer Time 17 April 2021

    Lancashire 305 & 267-7 v Northamptonshire 177

Lancashire continue to stay out there as Tom Bailey is dismissed by Nathan Buck for 34.

New batsman Tom Hartley joins Steven Croft (84 not out) in the middle.

    Lancashire's lead is 395.

  9. 100 runs

100 for Kiran Carlsonpublished at 17:14 British Summer Time 17 April 2021

    Glamorgan 285 & 215-5 v Sussex 481

Sensational stuff from Kiran Carlson who reaches his second hundred of the game with his 16th four of the innings.

He's kept Glamorgan in this one as the Welsh county lead by a slender 17 runs.

  10. Postpublished at 17:11 British Summer Time 17 April 2021

    Essex 96 & 330 v Durham 259 & 2-2

I can see Essex winning this.

We've just had 34 consecutive dot balls before the visitors finally get off the mark with a quick single.

After six overs Durham are 2-2. They require another 166 to win.

  11. Postpublished at 17:08 British Summer Time 17 April 2021

    Derbyshire 390 & 158-2 v Worcestershire 305

We've hardly touched on Derbyshire's second innings and that's testament to their batters.

Matthew Critchley has reached his 54 off just 44 balls, while Wayne Madsen is on 40 from 43.

The hosts lead Worcestershire by 243. Bat until the end of the day and declare first thing in the morning I'd say.

  12. 50 runs

50 for James Hildrethpublished at 17:06 British Summer Time 17 April 2021

    Somerset 312 & 122-7 v Gloucestershire 309

James Hildreth has brought up his half-century.

A really important innings for his side, but he and Josh Davey (15 not out) will want - and need - to carry on as they are.

  13. wicket

WICKET Pope (st Swindells b Ackermann) 245published at 17:01 British Summer Time 17 April 2021

    Surrey 556-4 v Leicestershire 375

    Gone at last!

Just five runs shy of 250 - and just six short of equalling his first-class best - Ollie Pope is stumped off the bowling of Colin Ackermann.

As he tried to cut Ackermann away, he just overbalanced slightly and wicketkeeper Harry Swindells whips off the bails.

A brilliant innings, off 272 deliveries and containing 30 fours, comes to an end.

  14. wicket

WICKET Lyth (c Cox b Milnes) 116published at 16:59 British Summer Time 17 April 2021

    Kent 265-9 v Yorkshire 379 & 218-3

Adam Lyth goes, chipping the ball straight to cover. A fantastic innings ends after 169 balls and 15 fours.

Root aptly remains on 66 not out.

  15. wicket

WICKET Lees (lbw b Porter) 0published at 16:55 British Summer Time 17 April 2021

    Essex 96 & 330 v Durham 259 & 0-2

    Jamie PorterImage source, Rex Features

    They couldn't could they?

Two in two overs as Jamie Porter traps Alex Lees for a duck.

  16. wicket

    WICKET Young (b S Cook) 0published at 16:54 British Summer Time 17 April 2021

    Essex 96 & 330 v Durham 259 & 0-1

    Hello!

A brilliant delivery from Sam Cook and opener Will Young sees his off stump cartwheel behind him.

Suddenly Durham's target of 168 seems a lot further away.

  17. 100 runs

100 for Jamie Smithpublished at 16:52 British Summer Time 17 April 2021

    Surrey 535-4 v Leicestershire 375

    And there's Jamie Smith's century.

He reaches the milestone with a six - his third of the innings - as he and Ollie Pope continue to dominate the Leicestershire attack.

  18. Postpublished at 16:49 British Summer Time 17 April 2021

    Surrey 522-4 v Leicestershire 375

That's the 200 partnership between Ollie Pope and Jamie Smith.

Smith has also moved into the 90s, currently eight runs shy of only a second first-class century.

From 93-3, Surrey have added 429 runs for the loss of just one wicket.

  19. 50 runs

50 for Joe Rootpublished at 16:44 British Summer Time 17 April 2021

    Kent 265-9 v Yorkshire 379 & 202-2

He's back. Even the great Darren Stevens can't stop the runs as Joe Root reaches his 50 off his fourth four of the innings.

    Yorkshire's lead stretches to 316.

  20. Postpublished at 16:43 British Summer Time 17 April 2021

    Somerset 312 & 108-7 v Gloucestershire 309

This has been a really important knock from the veteran James Hildreth, who is 46 not out. He has Josh Davey (six not out) with him for company.

The Somerset lead is up to 111 and, slowly but surely, they're giving their bowlers at least something to work with.
