Hampshire earned themselves a day off by completing a seven-wicket win over Middlesex under the lights at Lord's

Kyle Abbott bundled Middlesex out for 101 by taking 5-41 - giving him match figures of 11-85 - and Hampshire reached 66-3 in just 15.3 overs.

Abbott apart, the individual performance of the day was Simon Harmer's career-best 9-80 which enabled Essex to enforce the follow-on against Derbyshire.

England skipper Joe Root was dismissed for 99 for the first time in his career against Glamorgan, but Jack Burnham and Will Young managed to complete centuries as Durham set Worcestershire a huge target of 423.

Zak Crawley made 87 for Kent against Sussex, with Jofra Archer unable to bowl for the home side, while only nine overs were possible between Somerset and Surrey at Taunton, with the game still in the first innings.

Oscar Wilde is reputed to have once said: "I never play cricket. It requires one to assume such indecent postures."

It's always good to start the day with a witty line, even if it's not one we thought of ourselves.

Welcome to our coverage of the final day of the latest County Championship games
