  1. The end of a dramatic final daypublished at 18:20 British Summer Time 30 May 2021

There's nothing as exciting in sport as the end of any tense cricket match. And when it's a tense match that has already gone on for four days, that somehow just adds to the tension.

It's why, even in this one-day age, County Championship (and of course Test Match cricket) still has a big role to play in the modern game - especially now we have crowds back to fully appreciate it all.

So what a treat it was to report on this day of drama.

Lancashire left it late to beat Yorkshire and win the Roses MatchImage source, Rex Features

Worcestershire, Surrey and Northants all obligingly got their respective jobs done early to leave the stage clear. But it was approaching six o'clock before Lancashire, Warwickshire and Leicestershire followed suit.

Some fabulous cricket, three limited but deliriously happy home crowds - and two tired reporters signing off for the night.

But we'll be back to do it all again at 10:45 on Thursday morning. Join us then . . .

Remember, Leicestershire were 83-2 seven balls into this morning's session.

The lucky home supporters inside Grace Road go wild.

The spinner takes the final wicket to finish with 4-36 as the Bears complete a 170-run win.

It's the second breathless finish in the space of five minutes - and as rapturously received in Birmingham by 2,000 cricket-starved supporters as Lancashire's Roses Match win was at Old Trafford.

Warwickshire leapfrog Worcestershire to go third in Group One, two points behind second-placed Notts - and just seven behind leaders Essex.

Both sides are away from home when they play again on Thursday in the last round of Championship fixtures before the T20 Blast break..

  11. wicket

Yorkshire all out - Lancashire win Roses Matchpublished at 17:40 British Summer Time 30 May 2021

Bess c Livingstone b Parkinson 46 (Yorkshire 271 all out)

Dom Bess is last man out for 46 at Old Trafford as Matt Parkinson finishes it off - and the limited 2,000 Manchester crowd go up in triumph.

Lancashire have won by an innings and 79 runs - and It's astonishingly their first Roses Match victory at Old Trafford in 21 years.

It's also, say the historians, their first innings win in a Roses Match since August 1972 (the days of Wood, Lloyd D, Pilling, Lloyd C, Hayes, Engineer, Bond, Hughes, Simmons, Shuttleworth and Lee).

From a more modern perspective, it puts the Red Rose 24 points clear at the top of Group Three - with seven games gone.

Both teams are back in action on Thursday in the last round of Championship fixtures before the T20 Blast break, when Lancashire face Glamorgan at Sophia Gardens, while Yorkshire host Sussex at Headingley.

Jordan Thompson may or may not have just survived a sharp legside chance. Inconclusive proof on the video replay.
