  1. Tea at Hovepublished at 16:39 British Summer Time 4 July 2021

    Sussex 80-5 v Glamorgan

Glamorgan had a lot of joy in that session, Timm van der Gugten's 2-13 leading the way in what have been favourable bowling conditions at Hove.

Travis Head's 37 off 50 balls is keeping Sussex's innings together, with the hosts having chosen to bat first.

  2. Hants earn first batting pointpublished at 16:33 British Summer Time 4 July 2021

    Hampshire 200-5 v Surrey - tea

Colin de Grandhomme drives through point for two and then takes a sharpish single to mid-off as the Hampshire total reaches 200. That is tea - de Grandhomme is 33 not out and Lewis McManus has 16. Together, they have added 45 in 13 and a bit overs since Ian Holland's dismissal.

  3. wicket

WICKET Davies b Davis 65published at 16:32 British Summer Time 4 July 2021

    Somerset 143-1 v Leicestershire

    Leicestershire celebrateImage source, Rex Features

Somerset captain Steven Davies receives an ovation as he leaves the field, having been bowled by Will Davis for 65.

Coming around the wicket, Davis seems to find some extra pace, with Davies looking hesitant with an attempted defensive shot and the ball clipping off-stump.

A much-needed wicket for Leicestershire, while Lewis Goldsworthy is next in for Somerset rather than Tom Lammonby.

  4. Postpublished at 16:31 British Summer Time 4 July 2021

    Sussex 75-5 v Glamorgan

Sixteen-year-old Danial Ibrahim is at the crease for Sussex, with captain Ben Brown caught behind for 22.

The teenager scored a 50 at Headingley last month - if he were to repeat that feat in these circumstances, I think we could say he certainly has the temperament for a big future in the game.

  5. Postpublished at 16:30 British Summer Time 4 July 2021

    Hampshire 197-5 v Surrey

Just a single by Colin de Grandhomme in the latest Amar Virdi over. One more to come before tea at the Ageas Bowl. Will Hampshire secure a batting point before the interval?

  6. wicket

WICKET Hill lbw Keogh 71published at 16:26 British Summer Time 4 July 2021

    Northants v Yorkshire 142-8

    Northants have their man!

George Hill is rooted to the crease from a turning Rob Keogh delivery and is given out lbw for 71.

A fine innings for the 20-year-old - a maiden first-class half-century on his first time opening the innings for Yorkshire.

The visitors are now eight down, with Steven Patterson caught while miscuing a cut for a second-ball duck.

  7. Play resumes at Tauntonpublished at 16:23 British Summer Time 4 July 2021

    Somerset 134-0 v Leicestershire

After a two-hour rain delay they're back up and running at Taunton, with Leicestershire desperate for a breakthrough.

The sky is blue and clouds not so threatening, so with any luck they'll get a clear run until close of play - with 39.5 overs to be bowled.

Devon Conway (63 not out) and Steve Davies (61 not out) will hope to get back into their rhythm.

  8. Postpublished at 16:22 British Summer Time 4 July 2021

    Hampshire 196-5 v Surrey

Spinner Amar Virdi begins his second spell for Surrey and there's a reverse sweep by Lewis McManus. He times it well and it runs away for four. This is developing into a useful stand following the loss of Ian Holland for 58.

  9. Postpublished at 16:20 British Summer Time 4 July 2021

    Sussex 66-4 v Glamorgan

Travis Head is scoring well for Sussex as he looks to lead their recovery.

The Australia batsman is 32 not out from 45 balls, with home skipper Ben Brown (13 not out) also getting himself in.

It's a bit brighter now at Hove, which may be helping batting conditions.

  10. Postpublished at 16:15 British Summer Time 4 July 2021

    Hampshire 188-5 v Surrey

Colin de Grandhomme drives Jordan Clark for four, but he is fortunate to survive the final delivery of the over. It is banged in short, he can't get over it and the ball loops into a gap. They take two runs and de Grandhomme progresses to 27 not out.

  11. Play resumes at Wantage Roadpublished at 16:14 British Summer Time 4 July 2021

    Northants v Yorkshire 132-6

Wayne Parnell opens the bowling after tea for Northants, who will be keen to wrap up the Yorkshire innings - certainly by the close of play.

But George Hill (71 not out), in particular, is proving a tough nut to crack.

There are 38 more overs to be bowled.

  12. Postpublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 4 July 2021

    Hampshire 178-5 v Surrey

Ryan Patel again and Colin de Grandhomme lifts the ball over mid-on for four. In case you were wondering, New Zealand's Kyle Jamieson is not on the field for Surrey, having bowled six overs this morning. No news of what the problem is at the moment.

  13. Play to re-start at 16:20 BST at Tauntonpublished at 16:08 British Summer Time 4 July 2021

    Somerset 134-0 v Leicestershire

It's good news from Taunton, where the pitch has passed an inspection and play is set to re-start at 16:20 BST.

  14. rain stops play

Postpublished at 16:07 British Summer Time 4 July 2021

Notts v Derbyshire 74-3 - rain stopped play

The planned inspection at 16:05 was cancelled after rain returned. Very frustrating. The umpires now hope to take a look at 16:40.

  15. Postpublished at 15:59 British Summer Time 4 July 2021

    Hampshire 168-5 v Surrey

Ryan Patel is now turning his arm over for Surrey and was unlucky when Colin de Grandhomme edged through where second slip could have been for four. The New Zealander has 16 and Lewis McManus is on five.

  16. Tea at Wantage Roadpublished at 15:56 British Summer Time 4 July 2021

    Northants v Yorkshire 132-6

    Northants celebrateImage source, Getty Images

It's another session to Northants as they reach tea having taken a further four Yorkshire wickets.

However George Hill is still there for the visitors on 71 - you'd think his presence will be crucial if they're to post a reasonable score.

  17. Postpublished at 15:54 British Summer Time 4 July 2021

    Sussex 35-4 v Glamorgan

A tricky afternoon for Sussex isn't getting any easier.

Oli Carter is given out lbw to James Weighell for three - the ball might've been sneaking down the leg side but the umpire didn't hesitate in raising his finger.

Now captain Ben Brown - whose decision it was to bat - will get first-hand experience of the conditions at Hove.

  18. Touch and go at Edgbastonpublished at 15:51 British Summer Time 4 July 2021

Just a reminder that Warwickshire will bat first in this game. Ben Stokes is in the Durham side - his first Championship appearance for three years.

The Somerset faithful have been waiting patiently since a heavy shower sent the players scurrying from the field shortly after 14:00 and their dedication should receive its due reward, with an early tea taken, an inspection planned for 15:50 and every chance of a re-start at 16:00, or soon after.

In the 12-and-a-half overs that were possible since lunch, Devon Conway and Steve Davies took their opening partnership on to 134 - and that after Somerset were put in.

  20. Early tea at Trent Bridgepublished at 15:46 British Summer Time 4 July 2021

Notts v Derbyshire 74-3 - rain stopped play

Spectator at Trent BridgeImage source, Rex Features

The wait continues. An early tea is being taken and the umpires plan to inspect at 16:05 BST. Matt Critchley (22) and Leus du Plooy (20) are the not out Derbyshire batsmen.
