    Hampshire 51-1 v Surrey

Two runs to Tom Alsop off Jamie Overton, squeezed away through point, and the Hampshire total reaches 50 in the 22nd over of their innings. It's been hard work for the batsmen so far, but Joe Weatherley is the only one to fall.

    Notts v Derbyshire 22-2

How many overs do you need to bowl in a single spell to be described as a 'workhorse'? Luke Fletcher (1-8) and Brett Hutton (1-10) have sent down eight each at Trent Bridge - and there has only been one boundary so far.

    Northants v Yorkshire 38-2

The rain has intensified at Wantage Road and all the signs are that an early lunch will be taken.

We'll keep you updated on the weather there.

Devon Conway (33 not out) and Steve Davies (27 not out) had a couple of nervy moments between them early on but the Somerset openers seem in the groove now.

Leicestershire bowlers Ed Barnes and Gavin Griffiths have struggled, and been rather expensive, though Ben Mike has just produced a tight over with good line and length.

Rain stops playpublished at 12:14 British Summer Time 4 July 2021

    Northants v Yorkshire 38-2

It's started raining heavily at Wantage Road and play is halted, with the players jogging off and the covers on.

It looks like just a shower, so fingers crossed.

Gary Ballance (11 not out) and George Hill (19 not out) will return to the crease for Yorkshire when conditions allow.

  7. Postpublished at 12:14 British Summer Time 4 July 2021

    Hampshire 36-1 v Surrey

Surrey have a veritable feast of fast bowlers in their XI at the Ageas Bowl. Jamie Overton is into the attack now but strays wide of off-stump in his opening over and Ian Holland square cuts for four.

Morning washed out at Edgbastonpublished at 12:11 British Summer Time 4 July 2021

Warwickshire v Durham - start delayed

There will be no play before lunch as the rain continues to descend from the heavens. Remember, Warwickshire will bat whenever play is possible after Durham won the toss.

  9. Postpublished at 12:08 British Summer Time 4 July 2021

    Notts v Derbyshire 20-2

Another one gone at Trent Bridge as Tom Wood plays slightly down the wrong line to Brett Hutton, is struck on the read pad, and the lbw decision is a formality. Wood made nine and Leus du Plooy is the new batsman.

  10. Postpublished at 12:05 British Summer Time 4 July 2021

    Northants v Yorkshire 36-2

Northants seamer Tom Taylor hasn't put a foot wrong out there, giving away no runs from four overs and getting the wicket of Sam Northeast.

Yorkshire are pinching a few runs off Ben Sanderson and Gareth Berg but George Hill (19 not out) and Gary Ballance (9 not out) are having to be patient.

    Somerset 44-0 v Leicestershire

Unfortunately those dark clouds have produced rain and the teams are off.

But wait... the umpires take a look at the sky and wave the players back on, almost immediately!

Play continues at Taunton after all, with Ben Mike to bowl another over for Leicestershire.

  12. Postpublished at 12:00 British Summer Time 4 July 2021

    Hampshire 31-1 v Surrey

Kyle Jamieson has been given a breather by Surrey after a six-over spell which cost him just 10 runs. Rikki Clarke relieves him and starts with a maiden. Different bowler, but similar result.

Luke Fletcher dismisses Luis ReeceImage source, Rex Features

The pressure pays off for Notts as Luis Reece is caught behind by Ben Duckett off Luke Fletcher for six. That was a corker which left Reece off the pitch and there was little he could about it. Four slips in place now for Notts.

    Somerset 41-0 v Leicestershire

Leicestershire are taking their time getting through the overs at Taunton, though Will Davis has had a couple strong lbw shouts turned down.

There are dark skies overhead but they're still playing for now.

Somerset debutant Devon Conway (15 not out) and Steve Davies (18 not out) aren't having it all their own way but they're digging in.

They are back out in Nottingham after the second brief shower of the morning. No addition since the re-start by Derbyshire. Eight overs completed.

  16. Postpublished at 11:50 British Summer Time 4 July 2021

    Hampshire 21-1 v Surrey

The first wicket falls at the Ageas Bowl, but it isn't Kyle Jamieson who makes the breakthrough, it's new-ball partner Jordan Clark.

It's a good delivery too, just doing enough to take the edge of Joe Weatherley's bat and that's a pretty straightforward catch for Rory Burns at first slip.

Weatherley made 13. Unlucky for him.

    Notts v Derbyshire 16-0

The players have left the field at Trent Bridge with one delivery remaining in the seventh over. Luise Reece and Tom Wood are both six not out - Wood has the only boundary so far, driven through the covers off Brett Hutton, though his front foot certainly wasn't to the pitch of the ball, as the coaching orthodoxists would advocate.

*We are surprised to learn that 'orthodoxist' is indeed a proper word.

WICKET Northeast c Vasconcelos b Taylor 3published at 11:41 British Summer Time 4 July 2021

    Northants v Yorkshire 21-2

Sam Northeast goes for just three on his Yorkshire debut as he nicks one behind despite trying his best to pull out of the shot.

It's a wicket maiden for Northants' Tom Taylor, who gets the wicket with his fourth ball of the match.

The Yorkshire batsman may need to adjust to this pitch and get out of their crease a bit more.

  19. Postpublished at 11:38 British Summer Time 4 July 2021

    Hampshire 13-0 v Surrey

Good stuff from Kyle Jamieson so far - he's just sent down his third maiden in five overs. Jordan Clark is proving equally hard for Hampshire to get away from the other end.

  20. Postpublished at 11:29 British Summer Time 4 July 2021

    Somerset 19-0 v Leicestershire

Six overs gone in Taunton and Devon Conway has made a steady but assured start to his Somerset red-ball career.

The New Zealand batsman has made five off 20 balls, with fellow opener Steve Davies (9 not out) the early aggressor of the two.

Leicestershire are missing seven squad members because of coronavirus, with players having to isolate due to being deemed close contacts of someone who has tested positive.
