  1. 400 lead for Gloucestershirepublished at 14:11 British Summer Time 7 July 2021

    Glos 248 & 260-6 v Middx

Pretty much Middlesex’s last hope in this game was to strike quickly on day three.

But instead a pair of brothers has taken the game completely away from them.

How tremendous is this - Tom & Oli Price batting together in their second and first games respectively.

Both will now be eyeing up maiden fifties.

WICKET Denly c Davies b Lamb 17published at 14:09 British Summer Time 7 July 2021

    Lancashire 259-9 dec v Kent 74 & 40-3

Joe Denly won't be happy with himself as he clips a ball from Danny Lamb to mid-wicket, but doesn't keep it down and Alex Davies takes a good diving catch to send him on his way. Heino Kuhn comes out on a pair.

  3. wicket

    Hampshire 488 v Surrey 72 & 30-4

"That looked like a cracking ball," sayd BBC Radio London's Mark Church after Kyle Abbott knocks Ryan Patel's off stump out of the ground. No doubt this time after Patel survived two dropped catches during the morning.

It ends a partnership of 21 in 29 overs with Hashim Amla, who remains three not out, having faced 108 balls so far.

Jamie Smith - normally an aggressive batsman - is the new batsman.

  4. Postpublished at 14:05 British Summer Time 7 July 2021

    Lancashire 259-9 dec v Kent 74 & 38-2

Lancashire introduce left-arm spinner Tom Hartley, who was brought into the game on day three as a replacement for Matt Parkinson. It's a good opening over, costing him just a single to Joe Denly.

Kent counterpart James Logan found some turn yesterday - let's see what Hartley can do in this spell.

  5. Postpublished at 14:02 British Summer Time 7 July 2021

    Hampshire 488 v Surrey 72 & 30-3

It's hard to believe that Ryan Patel has found himself in this situation before in his career - if ever. Having someone at the other end with the experience and quality of Hashim Amla obviously helps.

There's a close shave in the latest Kyle Abbott, though, as he leg glances and the ball flies away for four, only just out of the reach of diving wicketkeeper Lewis McManus.

  6. Postpublished at 14:01 British Summer Time 7 July 2021

    Sussex 226 & 198-6 v Glamorgan 215

Breakthrough for Glamorgan, the perfect start to this session.

Sussex press the accelerator but Danial Ibrahim's timing is off as he tries to flick Timm van der Gugten to the boundary and he's pinned leg before.

He falls for 17. Will Beer is the new man in.

    Hampshire (488) lead Surrey (72 & 24-3 f/o) by 392 runs

    Hashim AmlaImage source, Rex Features

Break in play as Hashim Amla receives treatment from the Surrey physio for a blow to his left hand.

He tried to fend off a rising delivery from Brad Wheal at the end of the over that just fell short of a chance for the fielder under the short leg helmet.

Taking plenty of time here as he swallows a couple of painkillers for good measure after some winces as the physio does the classic, "does it hurt if I prod you here?" routine.

All ready to resume though after a few minutes.

  8. Postpublished at 13:51 British Summer Time 7 July 2021

    Sussex 226 & 196-5 v Glamorgan 215

We're back under way at Hove with Sussex's Ben Brown now on 56 not out, being aided by Danial Ibrahim unbeaten on 11 at the other end.

A big session this for Sussex who lead Glamorgan by 203 runs.

  9. wicket

WICKET Cox c Wells b Anderson 11published at 13:49 British Summer Time 7 July 2021

    Lancashire 259-9 dec v Kent 72 & 31-2

Why use two hands when four is better?

Rob Jones is unable to hang onto a sharp slip catch, but Luke Wells - standing next to him at first slip - gathers it safely and James Anderson has his first wicket of Kent's second innings.

The visitors need another 154 to avoid an innings defeat.

  10. rain stops play

Rain stops play at Tauntonpublished at 13:49 British Summer Time 7 July 2021

    Somerset 461-9 dec v Leicestershire 475-7

Play yet to resume at Taunton as a shower blows in during the lunch interval.

Doesn't appear to be one that will be there for long though according to our eyes and ears on location.

  11. The Surrey dig-in resumespublished at 13:46 British Summer Time 7 July 2021

    Hampshire 488 lead Surrey 72 & 24-3 f/o by 392 runs

Patel and AmlaImage source, Rex Features

Ryan Patel (10 not out) and Hashim Amla (3 not out) take guard again after lunch at the Ageas Bowl as they continue their bid to keep Hampshire's bowling attack at bay.

Kyle Abbott resumes with the ball for the hosts with the miserly figures of 12-8-5-0. And he starts with a maiden.

Surrey still 392 runs behind with seven wickets in hand in their second innings.

  12. Postpublished at 13:44 British Summer Time 7 July 2021

    Lancashire 259-9 dec v Kent 74 & 28-1

James Anderson serves up a maiden to new batsman Joe Denly.

It's the first maiden of Kent's second innings. They haven't always been in control but Kent's batters are scoring quickly. Opener Jordan Cox is already on 11 not out.

  13. It's rainingpublished at 13:42 British Summer Time 7 July 2021

    Durham 253-7 v Warwickshire 237

Things don't look good at Edgbaston.

Our scorecards have just ticked from 'Lunch' to 'Match delayed by rain'.

It looks like Durham's David Bedingham, on 92 not out, will have to sit nervously in the dressing room for a little while longer.

  14. The 'game within the game' for Bears and Durhampublished at 13:42 British Summer Time 7 July 2021

    Warwickshire 237 v Durham 253-7

    Clive Eakin
    BBC CWR at Edgbaston

It’s a battle for bonus points at Edgbaston as both teams do their calculations as to what is needed to secure a top-two place in Group One.

It’s likely that a draw in their final game at Worcestershire would be enough for Warwickshire while Durham will probably have to beat Nottinghamshire, but each additional point helps.

Beautiful batting from David Bedingham (92 not out) has helped Durham secure two batting points.

Warwickshire have benefitted from excellent catching. A diving effort from Sam Hain allowed Rob Yates to make Ned Eckersley his maiden first-class victim and secure a second bowling point.

Craig Miles competed his second five-wicket haul of the season courtesy of a low take at third slip from Yates to make Jack Burnham’s first role in the match brief.

Once again, the rain has had its say forcing the players into lunch 10 minutes early.

  15. Yorkshire want 'positive' Roses resultpublished at 13:36 British Summer Time 7 July 2021

    Steven PattersonImage source, Rex

Yorkshire skipper Steven Patterson turned his thoughts to this weekend's Roses match following their 53-run win over Northamptonshire on Tuesday.

The northern rivals are clear favourites to progress from Group Three - with two from each group set to contest the title later this summer.

"We're clear enough on points now to qualify for the top group, which is our overall goal," seam bowler Patterson said.

"But, with the way the points system works, carrying points over from teams you've played, it's important we get some kind of positive result against Lancashire in our last game if we can. We got beaten quite badly by them up at Old Trafford."

    Gloucestershire 248 & 216-6 v Middlesex 101

It's been smooth sailing for Gloucestershire who resumed 20ish minutes ago on 198-6.

Brothers Oliver and Tom Price have both found the boundary and look to be in good nick.

Barnes & SwindellsImage source, Rex Features

It has been a chastening, wearying, dispiriting morning for Somerset's bowlers as they have toiled away without success on what has turned into the most placid of pitches.

Harry Swindells and Ed Barnes have continued on their determined, no frills way, their partnership first breaking the all-time Leicestershire record for the eighth wicket and then going on past the 200 mark.

And apart from the briefest of showers, even the promised rain has failed to arrive to give bowlers and fielders a break from their seemingly endless labours.

    Kent (74 & 13-1) trail Lancashire (259-9 dec) by 172 runs

Not a great shot in the circumstances.

Not to be upstaged by Jimmy Anderson, Luke Wood has an early wicket as Ollie Robinson edges a wide one he didn't need to play.

Kent trail by 172 runs just to make Lancashire bat again. Joe Denly is the new man in.

  19. Postpublished at 13:20 British Summer Time 7 July 2021

    Kent 74 & 1-0 Lancashire 259-9 dec

Unsurprisingly, James Anderson, who made 7-19 in the first innings to pass 1,000 first-class wickets, gets us under way.

Just the one run from a tidy opening over. Can Kent do a better job of keeping out the England paceman this time around?

  20. Run-chase on the cards later?published at 13:14 British Summer Time 7 July 2021

    Sussex (226 & 183-5) lead Glamorgan (215) by 194 runs

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex at Hove

A morning of consolidation for Sussex, who lead by 194 runs at lunch with five wickets in hand.

Twenty-year-old opener Alistair Orr was the only wicket to fall, but not before he had reached a Championship best of 80 in just his second first-class match.

With a draw of little use to Sussex the possibility exists of a run-chase later today, although the wicket looks a good one.
