    Glos 229 & 310 v Hants 486-7 dec & 37-2

The BBC local radio commentators just made a good point, recalling the Hampshire first innings in which Gloucestershire conceded a whopping 81 extras.

That is going to be decisive here.

  2. Postpublished at 17:18 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Glos 229 & 310 v Hants 486-7 dec & 34-2

A beautiful drive straight back from whence it came by Ian Holland and the writing is on the wall for Gloucestershire now.

Having said that, Nick Gubbins then almost gets run out two balls later, just getting home a split-second before a great direct hit.

  3. Postpublished at 17:14 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Glos 229 & 310 v Hants 486-7 dec & 27-2

Every run is a dagger blow to the heart for Gloucestershire right now.

    Never mind a boundary.

Nick Gubbins, the hero of Hampshire's first innings when he hit 137, is off the mark with a four.

Hampshire need 26 runs from 13 overs. A formality, surely?

  4. 100 runs

100 for Harry Finchpublished at 17:11 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Kent 165 & 197-3 v Sussex 181 & 332-4

A lovely century for Harry Finch - his first since joining Kent from Sussex for this season.

It's kept Kent in contention to win this battle at the bottom of Group Three but they still need another 147 runs.

  5. Durham draw with Nottinghamshirepublished at 17:10 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Notts 328 & 217, Durham 165 & 188-4

It's all over too at Chester-le-Street as Durham call off their pursuit of a victory target of 381.

Their slim hope of joining Notts in Division One after the mid-season split are now finally over.

They and fourth-placed Essex will instead play Northants, Glamorgan, Surrey and most likely Gloucestershire in Division Two.

Group One winners Nottinghamshire and second-placed Warwickshire will be up against Yorkshire, Lancashire, Somerset and most likely Hampshire in Division One.

Alsop lbw Worrall 9published at 17:07 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Glos 229 & 310 v Hants 486-7 dec & 20-2 (Hants need 34 to win)

    More drama in Cheltenham.

Tom Alsop is trapped lbw by Dan Worrall. Not sure he agrees as the batsman takes a long, hard look at the umpire, but you're not changing his mind.

Hampshire are still well in control, needing 34 runs off 15 overs, but they could do with protecting their wickets a bit more.

  7. Surrey and Somerset draw at Kia Ovalpublished at 17:03 British Summer Time 14 July 2021
    Breaking

    Surrey 240 & 106-4 draw with Somerset 429 & 69

That Hashim Amla wicket was the last action of the day as Somerset and Surrey shake hands on a draw at the Kia Oval.

A diplomatic end given all three results were still, theoretically, in play but a draw always looked the likeliest outcome once Amla and Jamie Smith dug in for a 66 stand.

It was a day for the spinners - as Jack Leach, Roelof van der Merwe, Ravi Ashwin and Dan Moriarty shared the 16 wickets to fall on day four.

Somerset progress to Division One as Group Two winners and take 14 points from the game.

Surrey claim 11 points and will play Division Two cricket in the autumn.

Spin city continues at the Kia Oval.

The comparatively mammoth stand of 66 - like a double century partnership here today - of Hashim Amla and Jamie Smith is ended.

Amla is the man to go, lbw for Roelof van der Merwe's third scalp of the day.

  9. wicket

Middlesex beat Leicestershire by 121 runspublished at 16:56 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Middlesex 324 & 196, Leicestershire 228 & 171

Leicestershire's pursuit of 293 to win at Merchant Taylors' comes to an abrupt end.

Ben Mike is last man out for 7, caught behind by Robbie White, who snares his sixth victim of the game.

The Foxes are bowled out for 171 to lose by 121 runs.

They take just four points, to ensure that they cannot now overtake Surrey in Group Two and sneak a place in Division Two for the late season split.

Bottom club Middlesex take 22 points for claiming only their second win of the season.

  10. Postpublished at 16:53 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Glos 229 & 310 v Hants 486-7 & 1-1

Ian Holland gets Hampshire, slightly nervously, off the mark.

Just one run off the opening two overs. Still 53 needed.

  11. wicket

Worcestershire draw with Warwickshirepublished at 16:52 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Bears 395 & 215-2 dec, Pears 447-5 dec

Rob Yates is out for 88, Warwickshire skipper Will Rhodes declares and the game is over - and fists are air bumped at New Road.

The Bears have taken 14 points from this fixture to ensure qualification for Division One when the competition resumes on 30 August.

They will be up against Nottinghamshire, Somerset, Yorkshire, Lancashire and most likely Hampshire.

The Pears, who take 12 points from this fixture, finish second bottom of the group. They and Derbyshire will be in Division Three after the split, with four games to come against Kent, Sussex, Middlesex and Leicestershire.

    Glos 229 & 310 v Hants 486-7 dec & 0-1

    No way.

    Gloucestershire couldn't, could they?

This was not certainly not in the Hampshire script. They thought they had done the hard work but Joe Weatherley goes second ball, caught behind by James Bracey.

    It's 0-1 - still 54 runs needed. Off 19 overs now.

50 for Harry Gouldstonepublished at 16:46 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Glamorgan 462-4 dec v Northants 215 & 189-4

A nice moment for Northants' Harry Gouldstone - a half-century in only his second first-class match.

The visitors' deficit is down to 58, can they hang on for a draw?

  15. wicket

    Bedingham b Mullaney 36published at 16:45 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Notts 328 & 217, Durham 165 & 174-4

David Bedingham is out and his hopes of reaching his 1,000 runs in this game perish.

He must now wait on another six weeks to get there on 945.

  16. wicket

Barnes lbw Harris 6published at 16:43 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

Leicestershire 161-8 v Middx (chasing 293 to win)

Extraordinary. After coming on to complete the injured Tim Murtagh's over at Merchant Taylor's, stand-in James Harris strikes with his first ball.

He traps Ed Barnes leg before wicket.

  17. ouch!

Murtagh limps off injuredpublished at 16:41 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

Leicestershire 161-7 v Middx (chasing 293 to win)

Tim Murtagh goes off injured after pulling up short.

James Harris must complete his over.

  18. How unlucky is this?published at 16:40 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Glos 229 & 310 v Hants 486-7 dec

Gloucestershire were going along fairly nicely, three wickets in hand against Hampshire, with the over count ticking down and a lead of 50.

    Then this happened.

Poor Ollie Price. There are are ways to get out - and then there's this.

  19. 200 runs

200 up for Bears at New Roadpublished at 16:38 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Bears 395 & 206-1, Pears 447-9 dec

Rob Yates (86) and first-innings centurion Pieter Malan (70) are both closing in on personal landmarks but otherwise this game has not much more to offer as a contest.

  20. wicket

Gloucestershire bowled out for 310published at 16:35 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Glos 229 & 310 v Hants 486-7 - Glos lead by 53

Hampshire will have 21 overs to score 54 runs and progress to Division One at the expense of Gloucestershire.

It all went wrong for Glos after the unlucky departure of Ollie Price.

Last man Daniel Worrall is caught at point by Mason Crane and the hosts are all out for 310.
