  1. Lunch at Cheltenhampublished at 13:05 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Glos 229 & 205-5 v Hants 486-7 dec

A mixed morning that - in which both sides have reasons to be happy.

Hampshire took two wickets - one early on as Glenn Phillips departed and another just before lunch as Ryan Higgins finally went.

In between, though, Higgins and Tom Lace - who remains unbeaten on 92 - put on an excellent 95 stand to ensure Gloucestershire are not out of this one yet.

  2. Lunch at Chester-le-Streetpublished at 13:05 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Notts 328 & 217, Durham 165 & 18-0

Durham go to lunch with their two openers Cameron Bancroft and Michael Jones unparted, but still needing an unlikely 363 runs to win.

Even if they did get the runs, they would still need Warwickshire to lose to Worcestershire at New Road. And neither result looks at all likely.

  3. Lunch is served at Merchant Taylors'published at 13:04 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Middlesex 324 & 196, Leicestershire 228 & 63-1

Looks like, either way, there will be a positive result in this match.

At lunch, Leicestershire need a further 230 runs to win, with Aussie Msarcus Harris well set on 41, having hit five fours already, and Lewis Hill on 17.

  4. Five-wicket haul for Ashwinpublished at 12:59 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Surrey 240 v Somerset 429 & 58-7

Two quickfire wickets for Ravi Ashwin and that's a five-fer for the Surrey spinner.

He gets one to turn beautifully to beat George Bartlett all ends up then returns a couple of overs later to trap Roelof van der Merwe lbw.

Somerset somewhat in disarray here - although their Division One qualification is already assured of course, and they still lead this game by almost 250.

  5. wicket

Higgins c De Grandhomme b Barker 26published at 12:53 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Glos 229 & 202-5 v Hants 486-7 dec

Just 10 minutes before lunch, what a time to strike.

Ryan Higgins had worked extremely hard for his 26 off 86 balls but flashes at a Keith Barker delivery and it's taken in the slips by Colin de Grandhomme.

Tom Lace still unbeaten on 92 but he's going to need more help further down the order as Glos still trail by 55.

  6. 200 runs

200 up for Gloucestershirepublished at 12:50 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Glos 229 & 200-4 v Hants 486-7 dec

Tom Lace takes a couple off Kyle Abbott to bring up Gloucestershire's 200.

They are only 29 runs off their first-innings total, with six wickets in hand.

More importantly, they've cut Hampshire's lead to 57.

  7. ouch!

Robbie White goes off injuredpublished at 12:45 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Middlesex 324 & 196, Leicestershire 228 & 53-1

Middlesex wicketkeeper Robbie White has suffered a painful blow after standing up to keep to home skipper Tim Murtagh.

Only playing because of John Simpson's England call-up, White is led off in some pain - and Joe Cracknell takes over behind the timbers.

He is the second Middlesex man to leave the field injured in this game following the thigh strain suffered by Steve Eskinazi, which led to him retiring hurt in the first innings, then batting with a runner in the second.

The hosts now have two 12th men on.

Aussie Marcus Harris is going well on 37. Lewis Hill has made 17.

  8. Postpublished at 12:43 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Glos 229 & 197-4 v Hants 486-7 dec

Hampshire have turned to the pace of former South Africa seamer Kyle Abbott to attempt to break this stand between Tom Lace and Ryan Higgins.

But it's not worked thus far.

The partnership is worth 90 and has really dragged Gloucestershire back into this winner-take-all tussle, with a Division One spot up for grabs.

Lace is on 88 but Higgins is growing in confidence too and has just dispatched Abbott for successive boundaries.

  9. wicket

Notts bowled out for 217published at 12:35 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Notts 328 & 217, Durham 165

Stuart Broad is last man out at Chester-le-Street as he offers a return catch back to Durham leg spinner Scott Borthwick, who ends with a season's best return of 4-32 - his best figures in five years.

That sets Durham an unlikely 381 to win.

It would also need Warwickshire being bowled out cheaply by Worcestershire and losing on a flat track at New Road for Durham to resurrect their almost extinguished top two hopes.

    But you've got to dream . . .

  10. wicket

    Conway b Moriarty 12published at 12:33 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Surrey 240 v Somerset 429 & 39-5

Devon Conway is not sticking around. The Kiwi is gone.

He kneels forward to defend from Daniel Moriarty but the delivery spins gorgeously to the left to remove the bails.

That's all five wickets coming from Surrey spin.

  11. wicket

    Patterson-White c Raine b Borthwick 19published at 12:28 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Notts 328 & 201-9, Durham 165

Two wickets in the over for Scott Borthwick.

Liam Patterson-White follows, after skying the Durham skipper to Ben Raine at mid off.

Luke Fletcher is the last man in but surely with a lead of 364, Notts are already over the hills and far away.

  12. wicket

Goldsworthy lbw Moriarty 1published at 12:28 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Surrey 240 v Somerset 429 & 32-4

The beauties of cricket - how a team that effortlessly compiled 429 just a day or so ago can slip to 32-4 against the same opposition.

We know... pitches deteriorate, etc. But this is still some contrast to Somerset's first innings.

Still in celebration mode? Or are Surrey just bowling very well? Either way Lewis Goldsworthy fails to judge the bounce as he attempts a defensive stroke off the spin of Daniel Moriarty and that's a plumb lbw.

Devon Conway still sticking in there, 12no off 44 balls.

  13. wicket

    Hutton b Borthwick 22published at 12:24 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Notts 328 & 196-8, Durham 165

Brett Hutton is eighth man out for Notts, bowled by Durham skipper Scott Borthwick, as he misses a straight one attempting a bit of a wild yahoo somewhere in the direction of midwicket.

  14. wicket

Hildreth lbw Ashwin 14published at 12:21 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Surrey 240 v Somerset 429 & 31-3

Ravi Ashwin is on flames today, 3-14 now.

James Hildreth hit 107 in Somerset's first innings but there will be no repeat of that as he goes lbw.

The visitors, 220 ahead, are in no real danger of losing this, mind.

  15. new ball

Ball change at Merchant Taylors'published at 12:20 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Middlesex 324 & 196, Leicestershire 228 & 30-1

Just 11 overs gone in the Leicestershire second innings at Merchant Taylors' School - and already they're having a ball change.

Apparently, it had already gone out of shape, possibly (speculate the BBC commentary team of Richard Rae and Kevin Hand) after one bruising encounter when it thudded into the heavy roller after crossing the boundary rope.

Umpires Ben Debenham and Mark Newell summons third official Alec Swann to bring out their box of replacement balls.

Middlesex pick a new one and we're off again.

The Foxes have reduced their victory target to 263.

  16. Postpublished at 12:18 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Glos 229 & 178-4 v Hants 486-7

Got to be honest, we'd written Gloucestershire off when they slipped to 107-4 in the opening over this morning.

But Tom Lace has been excellent and has put the outcome of this battle between two Division One hopefuls back into some degree of doubt.

They still trail by 79. Hampshire are keen to break Lace's partnership with Ryan Higgins which is up to 71. Joe Weatherley's part-time spin is on, complementing Mason Crane.

  17. Postpublished at 12:13 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

Kent are top of the South Group in the T20 Blast but are potentially going to have some real issues this weekend.

The squad from last Friday's win are isolating after a positive Covid case, resulting in several first-teamers missing their ongoing Championship game with Sussex.

And now Sam Billings is unavailable too...

Neser on 3-20 for Glamorganpublished at 12:06 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

Michael Neser has had his Weetabix (other breakfast cereals available) this morning.

As has Glamorgan wicketkeeper Chris Cooke.

The duo have combined to remove Northants' opening three batsmen, with Charlie Thurston, for 29, the latest to depart.

  19. wicket

    Lammonby c Clarke b Ashwin 3published at 12:01 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Surrey 240 v Somerset 429 & 13-2

Ravi Ashwin seems to have taken Jack Leach's six-wicket haul for Somerset as a laying down of the gauntlet.

Surrey's India spinner has wickets in successive overs after Tom Lammonby edges one to Rikki Clarke in the slips.

  20. wicket

Joe Gordon c Carter b Robinson 0published at 11:59 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Kent 165 & 0-1 v Sussex 181 & 332-4 dec

A learning curve for Kent debutant Joe Gordon as he goes for a duck at Canterbury.

Just like his first innings, in which he scored eight, the youngster falls to England bowler Ollie Robinson. Tough school this Championship lark.
