  1. 50 runs

50 stand for Durhampublished at 14:18 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Notts 328 & 217, Durham 165 & 50-0

Durham openers Cameron Bancroft and Michael Jones bring up the 50 in the 14th over.

Good start chasing an improbable 381 to win.

Jones is on 26, Bancroft on 18.

  2. 100 runs

100 for Tom Lacepublished at 14:12 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Glos 229 & 237-5 v Hants 486-7 dec

A maiden first-class Gloucestershire century for Tom Lace - and what an important one from the 23-year-old.

He dispatched Keith Barker for four to move to within one of a ton and, after a few dot balls, Lace gets an inside edge that stays low and runs away for another boundary.

His ton has come off 214 balls with 12 fours and two sixes so it's not been an ultra defensive one despite his side's perilous situation.

Lace, who made three tons for previous club Derbyshire, has given the hosts a chance in this one - they only trail by 20 now. The longer they bat, the more time ticks down for Hampshire's reply.

  3. wicket

    Sibley c Cox b Finch 41published at 14:10 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Bears 395 & 6-1, Pears 447-9 dec

Worcestershire make a second innings breakthrough as Adam Finch gets England opener Dom Sibley for the second time in the match. This time for 41, virtually half his first-innings score of 80.

After a poor season so far, his match haul of 121 is timely, with the India Test series not far away.

The first starts at Trent Bridge in 19 days' time - and this is likely to be Slbley's last innings before then, if selected.

Rob Yates has moved on to 36, while first-innings centurion Pieter Malan is yet to score.

  4. wicket

    M Harris b Sowter 46published at 14:07 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Middlesex 324 & 196, Leicestershire 228 & 73-3

A third Leicestershire wicket falls - their second in quick succession.

Marcus Harris is bowled by Nathan Sowter for 46.

Josh Inglis joins captain Colin Ackermann in the middle.

  5. wicket

Hill c De Caires b Harris 17published at 14:03 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Middlesex 324 & 196, Leicestershire 228 & 64-2

Leicestershire lose a second wicket in their pursuit of 293 to win at Merchant Taylors' School.

Lewis Hill goes for 17 and Colin Ackermann comes in to join Marcus Harris.

  6. wicket

Somerset bowled out for 69published at 13:58 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Surrey 240 v Somerset 429 & 69

Those five words in bold above are not ones you will see written very often.

Somerset are probably still favourites to win this - or at least draw - given they lead by 258 thanks to their excellent first innings.

But what a collapse that is. James Hildreth top-scored with 107 in their first innings. He top-scored in this one too. With 14. Madness.

Daniel Moriarty bowls Marchant de Lange to end the innings with 4-20, while Ravi Ashwin takes 6-27.

Jack Leach licking his lips? How many will he add to the six he's already taken?

  7. wicket

    Green b Ashwin 3published at 13:54 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Surrey 240 v Somerset 429 & 67-9

What is happening at the Kia Oval??

Surrey's Ravi Ashwin matches Jack Leach's six-wicket haul for Somerset by bowling Ben Green who has, incidentally, been named skipper of his county's One Day Cup side this summer.

The Group Two leaders are being skittled, albeit they are still 250-odd ahead.

A spinners' paradise this pitch obviously.

  8. 50 runs

50 up for Bears at Worcesterpublished at 13:53 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Bears 395 & 71-0, Pears 447-9 dec

Warwickshire's opening batsmen Dom Sibley and Rob Yates have not taken long after lunch to post their 50 partnership.

England opener Sibley is on an unusually rapid 37 off 66 balls, with Yates on 33.

The Bears now lead by 19.

  9. wicket

    Leach c sub b Moriarty 2published at 13:48 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Surrey 240 v Somerset 429 & 65-8

Sorry, Christopher Herman (see 13:36 entry) - Jack Leach did not bat for long!

As BBC Somerset radio commentator Andrew Gibson said (13:32 entry), the visitors' best chance of winning this is to be bowled out and then bowl Surrey out.

They are certainly going for shots devil may care, and Leach is caught by a sub fielder at cover to give Daniel Moriarty his third wicket.

The case of the disappearing batsmen, Watson.

  13. Wickets aplenty at Kia Ovalpublished at 13:32 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Surrey 240 v Somerset 429 & 60-7

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Somerset

So much for those of us who were predicting a 'quiet, absorbing' day's cricket, as Somerset mopped up the last two Surrey wickets, decided not to enforce the follow-on and batted out time.

The last two Surrey wickets were indeed mopped up, but then so were seven of Somerset's, inside 26 overs.

Ironically, getting bowled out probably represents Somerset's best chance of winning, with a lead pushing 250, a pitch now offering turn and bounce and a world-class slow left-armer in their ranks, in the persona of Jack Leach.

It could be a fascinating afternoon of cricket - or then again possibly not!

  14. Resolute response from Kentpublished at 13:26 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Kent 165 & 51-2 v Sussex 181 & 332-4 dec

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

A resolute response from a depleted Kent side who are 52-1 at lunch needing an unlikely 297 more to win in 70 overs.

Former Sussex player Harry Finch is leading the way, reaching the interval on 29, and Sussex will need to bowl well on a good batting pitch if they are to win their second Championship game of the season and move off the bottom of the group.

  15. Northants left with only eight wicketspublished at 13:20 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Glamorgan 462-4 dec v Northants 215 & 97-4

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

Australian Michael Neser celebrated his county cap, awarded before the day’s play, with three early wickets as Glamorgan pressed hard for victory over Northants.

The visitors received last night the sad news of a second family bereavement in as many weeks for Luke Procter who headed home.

With Gareth Berg out injured for the whole match, they were left with just eight wickets to bat out the day and made a poor start as Neser had Ricardo Vasconcelos caught down leg-side second ball and removed Emilio Gay for 19 in the same way.

Charlie Thurston looked comfortable early on in his 29 but became the third victim to fall caught by Chris Cooke off Neser, this time a more conventional edge off a faster ball.

Rob Keogh (29 not out) and Saif Zaib looked set to bat out the second hour before Keogh’s disastrous call for a single off the ball before lunch saw Marnus Labuschagne run out Zaib for 19.

It’s been that sort of game for the visitors, though the minute’s silence in support of Procter before the start put Northants’ other troubles into perspective.

Meanwhile, Northants’ Friday night T20 fixture against Derbyshire has been replaced by an intra-club game at Wantage Road, with Derbyshire unable to field a team over the weekend because of Covid isolation.

  16. Lunch at the Kia Ovalpublished at 13:14 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Surrey 240 v Somerset 429 & 60-7

Fair to say bowlers have dominated the opening session at the Kia Oval.

Jack Leach wrapped up a six-wicket haul for Somerset as Surrey added just one run to their overnight 239.

But the Group Two leaders have crumbled to 60-7 in their second innings with Ravi Ashwin (5-23) in irresistible form.

  18. Wicket - and lunch at Cardiffpublished at 13:11 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Glamorgan 462-4 dec v Northants 215 & 97-4

Bit of a blow right before lunch for Northants as Saif Zaib is run out by Marnus Labuschagne for 19.

He and Rob Keogh (29no) had led a bit of a rebuild after Michael Neser (3-25) reduced the visitors to 52-3.

Glamorgan's mammoth first-innings declaration of 462-4 means they lead by 150 in the battle for third place in Group Three.

  19. Lunch at Canterburypublished at 13:08 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Kent 165 & 52-1 v Sussex 181 & 332-4 dec

A good response from Kent in the battle of the bottom two sides in Group Three.

After Sussex declared on 332 with Travis Head unbeaten on 49, Kent lost opener Joe Gordon for a duck.

However, Marcus O'Riordan and Harry Finch have since put on an unbeaten half-century stand to lead Kent to 52-1.

Kent need another 297 runs to win which seems unlikely but all three results are still possible at Canterbury.

  20. Lunch at New Roadpublished at 13:07 British Summer Time 14 July 2021

    Bears 395 & 46-0, Pears 447-9 dec

Warwickshire openers Rob Yates (26) and England's Dom Sibley (20) have so far put on 46 to all but wipe out Worcestershire's 52-run first innings lead.

The Bears trail by just 6 runs. And, with all 10 wickets remaining, this game appears to be heading for a draw, to secure Warwickshire's place in the top two - and a place in Division One when the County Championship season resumes on 30 August.
