    Division Three: Worcestershire 186-7 v Sussex 264

A final mini-session of 2.3 overs and the light closes in again, bringing play to an end at New Road.

Sussex added 10 to their overnight 254-9 and their youthful team has picked up wickets at regularly intervals in Worcestershire's reply.

Jack Haynes (47) and Brett D'Oliveira (38) put on 76, but the home side will start day three 78 runs in arrears.

  2. Close of play at Bristolpublished at 17:48 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    Division Two: Gloucestershire 90-6 v Northamptonshire 327

The gloom refuses to budge and that's the end of day two in Bristol, with Gloucestershire 237 behind, with only four wickets remaining.

Adam Rossington's 90, and a stand of 124 with Harry Gouldstone (43) enabled to visitors to pick up three batting points before Tom Price 4-72 brought their first innings to a close.

Ben Sanderson (3-13) and Luke Proctor (3-22) have done the damage in Gloucestershire's reply, but Graeme van Buuren will resume on 19 not out.

  3. wicket

WICKET Banton c Moores b Paterson 6published at 17:48 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    Somerset 87-7 v Nottinghamshire 448

This is magnificent bowling from Dane Paterson as the visitors continue to run through Somerset.

He finds a bit of bounce and a bit of away movement to take the edge of Tom Banton's bat and Tom Moores does the rest.

    Nottinghamshire in complete control.

  4. 50 runs

for Darren Stevenspublished at 17:41 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    Division Three: Kent 232 & 200-8 v Leicestershire 109

You can't keep Darren Stevens out of a game for long.

The 45-year-old reaches 50 off just 39 balls against his former club with a single to mid-wicket.

He has hit a six and eight fours so far and Kent's lead is 323.

That is 81 first-class 50s, and 36 centuries, for Stevens.

  5. wicket

WICKET van der Merwe lbw b Hutton 2published at 17:40 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    Somerset 77-6 v Nottinghamshire 448

Roelof van der Merwe has come and gone and Somerset are collapsing in a heap.

Brett Hutton replaces Luke Fletcher and captain Steven Mullaney's decision is justified within three balls as van der Merwe is as plumb as is possible.

Someone must wish the lights had not been switched back on as they have lost three more wickets since the short stoppage.

  6. Yorkshire seek final wicketpublished at 17:38 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    Hampshire 144-9 v Yorkshire 243

Dom Bess rolls up for another over his first delivery turns, keeps low and beats both batsman and wicketkeeper before rolling away for four byes.

Yorkshire's lead is now under 100, but they'll be perfectly happy if they can pick up this final wicket.

Ben Coad is operating at the other end, with Jordan Thompson (3-35) given a breather.

  7. wicket

WICKET Hildreth lbw b Paterson 12published at 17:35 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    Somerset 72-5 v Nottinghamshire 448

James Hildreth cannot stem Nottinghamshire's charge as half of Somerset's wickets are now in the bag.

Dane Paterson replaces Luke Fletcher as the wicket-taker this time as he has Hildreth LBW in front of middle and leg.

The follow-on target is 299 and Notts are scenting blood. If they nick one or two more wickets tonight, they will have the home side staring into the abyss.

  8. Last pair together for Hantspublished at 17:22 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    Hampshire 133-9 v Yorkshire 243

How do Hampshire's final pair approach this? Throw the bat a bit - they might as well.

Kyle Abbott lofts Dom Bess over mid-off for four and Brad Wheal finds the third man boundary via a thick edge in the following over.

  9. wicket

WICKET Goldsworthy c Moores b Fletcher 5published at 17:21 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    Somerset 68-4 v Nottinghamshire 448

When it's your day, it's your day and that's the case for Luke Fletcher.

The big bowler has now got all four Somerset wickets to fall and for the second in a row, he has strangled Lewis Goldsworthy with the batsman caught down legside by Tom Moores.

If anything, that delivery was even wider than the one which got Tom Abell and Fletcher now has 4-21.

  10. Latest from Divisions Two and Threepublished at 17:18 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

Glamorgan are clinging on against Essex, and are currently 42-6 in their second innings, requiring another 144 to avoid an innings defeat.

The teams are off the field at Bristol because of bad light, with Gloucestershire 90-6 in reply to Northamptonshire's 327 all out.

In Division Three, Leus Du Plooy has just been caught behind off Tim Murtagh for 90 and Derbyshire are 169-7, 113 behind Middlesex.

There has been no resumption at New Road since Adrian Harms' 17:04 entry, where Worcestershire are 180-7, replying to Sussex's 264.

  11. 50 runs

50 for Josh Bohannonpublished at 17:12 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    Lancashire 74-1 Warwickshire 371

A good counter attack from Josh Bohannon as he brings up a fine half-century from 73 balls with nine boundaries.

Coming in at 6-1, he has put the pressure back on to the visiting bowlers.

  12. wicket

WICKET Crane c Lyth b Thompson 4published at 17:11 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    Hampshire 123-9 v Yorkshire 243

No doubt about that one as Jordan Thompson picks up his third wicket of the innings for Yorkshire.

Thompson digs in a well-directed short one, Crane is unable to get on top of it and Adam Lyth takes a comfortable catch at second slip.

  13. wicket

WICKET McManus c Duke b Bess 7published at 17:08 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    Hampshire 121-8 v Yorkshire 243

Remember the cartoon character Vincent van Gopher, who often used the phrase: "What happened? What happened?"

Well, we're not sure but Lewis McManus has to go.

A quick look at the video and it appears McManus inside edged it into his own boot, the ball flew into the right hand of keeper Harry Duke, who broke the stumps in case there was a stumping possibility.

Caught behind is the official verdict.

Two delays for bad light at New Road, and cold enough for the heater to be switched on in the commentary box!"

  15. Money in the meterpublished at 17:02 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    Somerset 55-3 Nottinghamshire 448

Some of the floodlights have come back on at Taunton, the umpires have checked the light is OK and so after the briefest of delays, we are back under way.

Maybe a bit of money in the meter made the difference!

  16. Du Plooy leads Lord's fightbackpublished at 17:00 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    Division Three: Middlesex 282 v Derbyshire 160-6

    Kevin Hand
    BBC Radio London commentator

Derbyshire fought back with the bat in the afternoon session after a top order collapse left them in danger of falling short of Robbie White's score let alone Middlesex's total.

Tim Murtagh followed up Ethan Bamber's pre-lunch double with a treble and by the time Martin Andersson took a sixth wicket the procession looked as though it wouldn't stop.

Leus Du Plooy, though, has played a dominant innings to defy a strong pace quartet - which includes the wicketless Toby Roland-Jones on his return from injury - and Anuj Dal has risen to the task in a partnership that now threatens to bring the visitors close to parity.

The pitch has been a little easier as one would expect on the second afternoon but with spin also expected to play a part this match looks as though it will continue to simmer nicely throughout.

  17. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 17:00 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    Lancashire 62-1 v Warwickshire 371

After a 50 partnership by Josh Bohannon and Luke Wells, Wells has a big escape.

He comes down the track to Danny Briggs and gets an inside edge, but the ball goes in and then out of Sam Hain's grasp at short leg.

  18. Glamorgan facing emphatic defeatpublished at 16:56 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    Division Two: Glamorgan 134 & 29-6 v Essex 320

Six wickets in the first innings and he only needs three deliveries to strike in this one. Dan Douthwaite is lbw to Shane Snater for a duck and Essex are four wickets away from an emphatic win.

  19. Bad light stops playpublished at 16:55 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    Somerset 52-3 v Nottinghamshire 448

The floodlights have gone off at Taunton and umpires David Millns and Paul Pollard have taken the players off for bad light.

This has been Nottinghamshire's day and they probably would want to get back on to make more inroads into Somerset's batting.

  20. wicket

    WICKET Barker c Kohler-Cadmore b Thompson 2published at 16:51 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    Hampshire 113-6 v Yorkshire 243

The headline for the previous entry was tempting fate, wasn't it?

Not a lot Keith Barker could have done about a ball that left him on the pitch and Tom Kohler-Cadmore safely pouched the catch at first slip.

Mason Crane is the next man to the crease.
