    Somerset v Nottinghamshire 376-7

It's a brilliant maiden Championship hundred for Liam Patterson-White.

Coming in at 208-6, the 22-year-old left-hander has played a blinder. His hundred has come off with 116 balls with 18 fours in a display of eye-catching strokeplay.

And his efforts have well and truly turned the match in Nottinghamshire's favour.

  2. Latest from Division Two and Threepublished at 12:30 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

Robbie White's magnificent innings for Middlesex is over - he was caught off Derbyshire's Sam Conners for 120, but the home side are 279-9 following a six by Thilan Walallawita off Luis Reece.

Worcestershire have lost their first wicket, with Jake Libby bowled by Fynn Hudson-Prentice for 28, but they are 48-1 replying to Sussex's 264 all out.

WICKET Fisher lbw b Crane 17published at 12:27 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    Hampshire v Yorkshire 239-9

Matthew Fisher pushes forward and leg-before to Mason Crane - was that a slightly quicker delivery from the leg-spinner?

Number 11 Ben Coad comes out with Yorkshire needing another 11 runs for a second batting point.

  5. Can Abbott scatter the tail?published at 12:19 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    Hampshire v Yorkshire 235-8

Hampshire have turned to Kyle Abbott to try and finish off Yorkshire's tail. He finds movement - too much movement perhaps, as the opening delivery of his second over runs away for four byes.

Matthew Fisher is solidly behind the rest of the over but there is no further addition and he remains 17 not out.

  6. Rare boundary for Yorkshirepublished at 12:08 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    Hampshire v Yorkshire 229-8

We have a boundary at the Ageas Bowl as Ian Holland is short and wide and Matthew Fisher square cuts for four. That's 100 overs gone for Yorkshire and they need to reach 250 by the end of the 110th for a second batting point or, if they really get their skates on, 300 for a third.

  7. Hard going for Bearspublished at 12:07 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    Lancashire v Warwickshire 280-5

Just 21 runs from 12 overs this morning with the loss of two wickets for Warwickshire.

We've also had the first spin of the day as leggie Matt Parkinson has come on after good early spells from Tom Bailey and Saqib Mahmood.

It is, of course, football's Transfer Deadline Day today. Talking of transfers, it was announced a few days ago that pace bowler Steven Finn is leaving Middlesex to join Sussex for next season.

Today, he has said farewell to Middlesex supporters on his Instagram page, external. This is what he had to say:

"It’s very difficult for me to put in to words what it feels like to be leaving Middlesex under these circumstances after so long. The club has been my life for the best part of 20 years since I joined the academy in 2003 and every time I have represented it, both on and off the field, I have tried to give the best representation of myself. It’s with great sadness that I walk away from it now having not been able to agree anything with the club moving forward. I have made friends for life at Middlesex and the special memories I’ve shared with every one of my team mates are what I hold dear about my time at the club. I will always be grateful to the people who have supported me along the way, staff and fans, it has always meant a lot. However, I’m now really excited to continue my playing career at Sussex where I’m looking forward to getting involved with a fantastic club and trying to help them achieve success in the coming years."

  9. Best ever for LPWpublished at 12:02 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

This is now a career-best score for Liam Patterson-White as he's moved to 89 not out. A maiden hundred starts to loom into view.

They have now brought up a fourth batting point and have enjoyed an excellent morning so far.

Leicestershire are clinging on against Kent at Grace Road - they are 93-7 and 139 behind Kent's first innings score.

    Keith BarkerImage source, Rex Features

Keith Barker comes in from round the wicket, Dom Bess attempts to drive and loses his middle stump. The Yorkshire all-rounder batted for two and a half hours and faces 105 balls in total.

Steve Patterson is the new batsman and a second batting point for the visitors is looking a distant prospect at the moment.

  12. wicket

WICKET Moores c Davies b Lammonby 46published at 11:48 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    Somerset v Nottinghamshire 332-7

Finally a wicket for Somerset as Tom Moores is caught behind by opposite number Steven Davies off Tom Lammonby's left-arm bowling.

Moores falls four short of a deserved 50, but he's played a fine hand alongside Liam Patterson-White in a seventh wicket partnership of 124.

Lammonby only bowled two overs yesterday, so Tom Abell's call to throw him the ball has paid off.

  13. Tykes maintain sedate tempopublished at 11:46 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    Hampshire v Yorkshire 214-7

Yorkshire's slow grind continues at the Ageas Bowl. An odd single here and there but no sign of a boundary. The latest over, from Brad Wheal, is a maiden following a lengthy interruption as Hampshire try to persuade the umpire to change the ball.

Andrew Salter dismisses Dan LawrenceImage source, Rex Features

Dan Lawrence is in England's squad for the fourth Test against India, but that won't have done his chances of making the final XI any good.

The Essex batsman 'goes aerial' to spinner Andrew Salter, but picks out Timm ven der Gugten at long-off. His dismissal ends a stand of 59 with Nick Browne, who is 53 not out.

  16. wicket

WICKET Rhodes b Mahmood 10published at 11:30 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    Lancashire v Warwickshire 272-5

Superb piece of bowling from Saqib Mahmood to remove Warwickshire skipper Will Rhodes.

Coming round the wicket, Mahmood sends the off-stump out of the ground. No finer sight for a fast bowler than that!

  17. 50 runs

for Dom Besspublished at 11:26 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    Hampshire v Yorkshire 212-7

Dom Bess runs the opening delivery of a new Keith Barker over down past second slip for two runs and reaches a 90-ball half-century. This has been a crucial innings for his side in tricky conditions - and Yorkshire need him to go on, with 18 overs remaining to pick an extra batting point or two.

Dan Lawrence has struck the first boundary of the morning for Essex, who are 99-2 in their Division Two game against Glamorgan in Cardiff - and are now just 35 in arrears.

In Division Three, Middlesex are now 228-5, with Robbie White 106 not out in their game against Derbyshire at Lord's.

Leicestershire have lost both overnight batsmen, with Louis Kimber and Ben Mike lbw to Matt Milnes, and they are 73-7 against Kent, 159 behind.

Jack Carson's fine innings for Sussex has come to an end, bowled by Joe Leach for 87, and they are all out for 264 against Worcestershire at New Road.

Leach's five-fer is his first in over two years since he took 6-79 at Cheltenham College in July 2019.

  20. wicket

WICKET Hain lbw b Bailey 118published at 11:18 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    Lancashire v Warwickshire 268-4

Lancashire get the wicket they so desperately needed as Sam Hain is trapped LBW by Tom Bailey.

It ends a terrific innings from Hain, which comprised 253 balls and 14 fours and has put Warwickshire in a very strong position.

But it's the old thing in cricket about how difficult it is to start again on a new day, no matter how many runs you have to your name.
