  1. Expensive start by Cranepublished at 11:56 British Summer Time 1 September 2021

    Hampshire 163 v Yorkshire 243 & 63-1

Did Mason Crane have some marmalade for breakfast?

He sends down two rank long hops in his first over of the day as the ball 'sticks' in his hand, both put away for four by Tom Kohler-Cadmore.

    Yorkshire's lead is now 143.

  2. Wheal off field for Hantspublished at 11:50 British Summer Time 1 September 2021

    Hampshire 163 v Yorkshire 243 & 51-1

Kyle Abbott has gone for a scan on his foot injury, says BBC Radio Solent's Kevan James, and fellow seamer Brad Wheal is also off the field at the Ageas Bowl.

Thank goodness Hampshire will have Mohammad Abbas available for the next three games.

Keith Barker and spinner Liam Dawson are continuing to bowl and they are doing a tidy job in tandem - with only a single to George Hill in the former's latest over. The Yorkshire lead is 131.

  3. wicket

WICKET de Lange b Hutton 6published at 11:41 British Summer Time 1 September 2021

    Somerset 107 all out v Nottinghamshire 448

Brett Hutton ends the Somerset first innings when he hits the stumps as Marchant de Lange tries an almighty heave and completely misses it.

Hutton has 3-42, Luke Fletcher took 4-21 and has not even been needed this morning, while Dane Paterson picked up the other three in a fine team display of seam bowling. No-one else was required to bowl.

With a lead of 341, it's no surprise whatsoever that Somerset are going to follow-on.

  4. 100 runs

for Darren Stevenspublished at 11:39 British Summer Time 1 September 2021

    Leicestershire 109 v Kent 232 & 262

    Darren StevensImage source, Rex Features

Choose your own adjective to describe Darren Stevens - we'll settle for 'amazing'. The 45-year-old reached a 67-ball century with two sixes and a four off successive balls from Callum Parkinson.

Kent's second innings is, though, now at an end with James Logan bowled by Colin Ackermann, leaving Stevens 107 not out - an innings including six sixes and 13 fours.

Leicestershire need 386 to win. With Stevens in the Kent attack, it would be a major surprise if they reach that target.

  5. ESSEX BEAT GLAMORGAN BY AN INNS & 74 RUNSpublished at 11:34 British Summer Time 1 September 2021
    Breaking

    Glamorgan 134 & 112 v Essex 320

Essex take just 6.5 overs to wrap up an emphatic win at Sophia Gardens - as Sam Cook claims the final two wickets with successive deliveries.

Lukas Carey is caught at mid-on for 29 and Michael Hogan's leg stump is knocked out of the ground by the next one as Cook finishes with 5-37.

Essex carried 19 points forward from the first phase of the competition and can now add another 22 to that - Glamorgan take three from the game.

  6. 6 runs

TKC in positive moodpublished at 11:29 British Summer Time 1 September 2021

    Hampshire 163 v Yorkshire 243 & 50-1

No major alarms so far this morning for Yorkshire, and Tom Kohler-Cadmore hoists spinner Liam Dawson away over mid-on for six.

Is that the first maximum of the game? Yes, it is.

Kohler-Cadmore is 26 not out, George Hill has 15, and Yorkshire's lead is 130.

  7. wicket

WICKET Davey c Moores b Paterson 6published at 11:25 British Summer Time 1 September 2021

    Somerset 101-9 v Nottinghamshire 448

The end is nigh for Somerset's first innings.

Josh Davey is tempted into playing outside off-stump by a fine delivery from Dane Paterson and Tom Moores takes an impressive diving catch behind the stumps.

Five catches now for Moores in a good display of wicketkeeping.

  8. Latest from Divisions Two and Threepublished at 11:22 British Summer Time 1 September 2021

We have already told you how Essex are closing in on victory over Glamorgan.

Also in Division Two, Gloucestershire have yet to lose a wicket and are 99-6 against Northamptonshire, a deficit of 228.

In Division Three, Mark Stoneman has completed a pair on his Middlesex debut, bowled first ball by Sam Conners. They are 0-1 after bowling out Derbyshire for 205, a first-innings lead of 77.

Darren Stevens has hit two sixes off Callum Parkinson and is now 87 not out with Kent advancing to 242-9, a lead of 365 over Leicestershire.

Henry Crocombe has just picked his third wicket for Sussex, having Joseph Baker caught behind, to leave Worcestershire on 202-9, 62 behind.

  9. wicket

WICKET Wells b Norwell 45published at 11:22 British Summer Time 1 September 2021

    Lancashire 115-2 v Warwickshire 371

After picking up a couple of nice fours to get the day going, Luke Wells is bowled by Liam Norwell.

The ball threatened to shape away and took the off stump and it's a good start to the morning for Warwickshire.

  10. wicket

WICKET Leach c Clarke b Hutton 10published at 11:17 British Summer Time 1 September 2021

    Somerset 97-8 v Nottinghamshire 448

The answer to my earlier entry is an emphatic no!

Jack Leach unfurled one lovely shot through the covers for a boundary but after surviving one LBW shout, his resistance is ended as he tamely edges Brett Hutton to Joe Clarke at first slip.

Easy as you like and Nottinghamshire are on their merry way again.

  11. wicket

WICKET Van der Gugten c Wheater b Cook 4published at 11:09 British Summer Time 1 September 2021

    D2: Glamorgan 134 & 78-8 v Essex 320

A double breakthrough at Cardiff, where the game may not last much longer.

Andrew Salter is bowled behind his legs by Jamie Porter. - a strange dismissal as he barely moved across his stumps.

Timm van der Gugten follows in the next over as Sam Cook bangs one in short and he edges to the keeper.

Glamorgan need another 108 to avoid an innings defeat.

  12. Near thing for Hillpublished at 11:08 British Summer Time 1 September 2021

    Hampshire 163 v Yorkshire 243 & 36-1

Hampshire think they have George Hill - they appeal for an inside edge to the keeper off Keith Barker, but the umpire doesn't agree and the Yorkshire opener survives. It's a maiden.

  13. Tykes look to extend leadpublished at 11:00 British Summer Time 1 September 2021

    Hampshire 163 v Yorkshire 243 & 34-1

"Yorkshire are in the driving seat," says BBC Radio Solent's Kevan James.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore and George Hill walk to the middle to resume their innings. How far can the visitors stretch their 114-run advantage?

Hampshire's Kyle Abbott is not on the field at present (see 10:48 entry).

  14. Who will seize control in murky Manchester?published at 10:57 British Summer Time 1 September 2021

    Lancashire 100-1 v Warwickshire 371

    Josh BohannonImage source, Getty Images

For the third day in a row, the players from Lancashire and Warwickshire will emerge onto the field under leaden grey skies.

Centuries from Chris Benjamin and Sam Hain won day one for the Bears. Saqib Mahmood and Matt Parkinson with the ball and Josh Bohannon with the bat led a Red Rose fightback yesterday.

But resuming 271 runs behind, they will have to bat well to get near to the visitors' total. However, with bowlers finding it hard outside of the new ball and scoring rates well below three, maybe the Old Trafford pitch is winning.

It requires a fine individual performance from someone to shape how the final two days will play out.

  15. Can Jack recreate previous batting heroics?published at 10:54 British Summer Time 1 September 2021

    Somerset 87-7 v Nottinghamshire 448

    Jack LeachImage source, Getty Images

Everyone can remember Jack Leach's famous one not out for England as Ben Stokes went on the charge on that famous Headingley afternoon in 2019 to beat Australia by one wicket.

But only a few weeks before, he scored 90 coming in as a night-watchman against Ireland at Lord's.

He's not a night-watchman this time, but resumes on six not out with Somerset in a huge crater of trouble, 361 runs behind, and almost certainly facing the follow-on.

How his county could do with some of that 2019 magic this morning.

  17. Abbott injury concern for Hantspublished at 10:48 British Summer Time 1 September 2021

    Hampshire 163 v Yorkshire 243 & 34-1 - play starts 11:00 BST

    Kyle AbbottImage source, Rex Features

Hampshire are keeping fingers crossed that Kyle Abbott will be able to bowl on day three against Yorkshire despite a foot injury.

The visitors are already 114 in front and Hampshire need wickets to ensure they do not face too big a target.

"He has had an issue and we under-bowled him this morning in particular. We're being cautious with him as he's a major factor for us," head coach Adi Birrell told BBC Radio Solent following the second day's play.

"We're up against it. Anything over 300 is going to be difficult to chase."

  18. Weather outlookpublished at 10:45 British Summer Time 1 September 2021

Hopefully rain will not be a factor in today's Championship action. Conditions are expected be much the same as yesterday, but BBC Weather's Simon King has all the info in the video below.

  19. Essex set sights on 'strong finish'published at 10:42 British Summer Time 1 September 2021

    D2: Glamorgan 324 & 71-6 v Essex 320 - play starts 11:00 BST

Shane Snater takes a wicket for EssexImage source, Rex Features

Essex will not be lifting any red-ball silverware this summer, but their performance on day two against Glamorgan underlined their determination to finish top of Division Two.

The 2019 county champions and 2020 Bob Willis trophy winners need four more wickets for an innings victory in Cardiff, with the Welsh county requiring another 115 to make them bat again.

"It's not been the season we would have wanted, we want to be playing for trophies but we've got to try to win this division and finish strongly," batsman Nick Browne told BBC Essex.
