    Duckett c Alsop b Barker 9 (Hampshire 226 v Notts 29-2)

First ball of the day - Ben Duckett is gone.

It's a nothing leg-side delivery by Keith Barker, but in trying to work it away, the left-hander only manages a thin edge and keeper Tom Alsop takes a sprawling catch.

Division One leaders Nottinghamshire have plenty of work to do despite running through Hampshire's batting line-up on the opening day at the Ageas Bowl.

Bowling coach Kevin Shine insisted that the Notts attack had allowed the home side to achieve a "par score".

"We bowled really well in the first session but in the second and third session we didn't really bowl at the stumps as much as we would have wanted to," he said.

"It is one of those wickets where you have to work hard whether you are batting or bowling and your concentration has to stay up the whole time."

  5. 'I'm thrilled with how I played' - Wellspublished at 10:23 British Summer Time 13 September 2021

Luke Wells was understandably thrilled after hitting his first century for Lancashire on the opening day at Taunton.

"To finally get the three figures is great," the former Sussex batsman told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"I've felt good all year, I know I've been playing how I'd like to play. I've had a lot of starts, a lot of 30s and 40s. I know I've been playing well so I wasn't fretting. But to get the three figures is obviously a great feeling.

"It was a strange day. There was enough there, it is a free-scoring ground. I don't know what a par score is to be honest."

  6. Batting 'not good enough' - Pattersonpublished at 10:20 British Summer Time 13 September 2021

    D1: Yorkshire 95-8 v Warwickshire 155 - play starts 10:30

    Steven PattersonImage source, Rex Features

Yorkshire captain Steven Patterson admitted his side were "behind where we want to be" following a hectic opening day against Warwickshire.

He took 4-34 - reaching 450 first-class wickets in the process - to help bowl the Bears out for 155, but Yorkshire then slumped to 95-8 in reply.

A fighting 51 not out by Gary Ballance saved them from total collapse and Patterson said: "We did a decent job with the ball....but we haven't played well enough with the bat."

On his personal achievement, he added: ""I didn't realise I'd taken 450 wickets, to be honest. It's just nice to contribute again after taking no wickets at Scarborough and against Hampshire."
