  1. wicket

    Bresnan c & b Overton 1published at 11:05 British Summer Time 22 September 2021

    Warwickshire 304-8 v Somerset

Another Bear gone in Birmingham. Tim Bresnan returns a catch to fellow England all-rounder Craig Overton.

The Bears have at least gone past 300 to claim a third batting point - but, in the 105th over, the idea of four looks pie in the sky now!

Liam Norwell is the new man in to join Danny Briggs.

  2. wicket

ESSEX BEAT NORTHANTS BY AN INNINGS & 44 RUNSpublished at 11:02 British Summer Time 22 September 2021

    Essex 170 v Northants 81 and 45

Sam Cook gets the final wicket at Chelmsford to finish off the rout of Northamptonshire, as Luke Procter is bowled for 4.

Essex therefore have won their sixth trophy in as many years - as they this week announced that they have decided to award the old Division Two trophy for the side finishing top of this six-team Division Two.

Cook's scalp gives him his second 'five-fer' in the match and his first 10-wicket match haul.

  3. wicket

    Taylor c Lawrence b Snater 8published at 11:00 British Summer Time 22 September 2021

    Northants 41-9 v Essex

Northants' misery looks to be almost over!

Four wickets in 14 balls for Shane Snater.

  4. wicket

    WICKET Kohler-Cadmore b Fletcher 0published at 10:59 British Summer Time 22 September 2021

    Nottinghamshire 296 v Yorkshire 5-2

First ball and Fletcher is on a hat-trick!

Make that 65 for Fletcher. Outstanding bowling as he takes the off-stump of Tom Kohler-Cadmore and that is two in two balls.

  5. wicket

WICKET Hill c Hameed b Fletcher 5published at 10:58 British Summer Time 22 September 2021

    Nottinghamshire 296 v Yorkshire 5-1

    Who else but Luke Fletcher?

Wicket number 64 for the big man in the Championship this season. He knows what he's doing at Trent Bridge. Super delivery, tempting George Hill into an edge and Haseeb Hameed takes the chance at third slip.

This could be a tough morning for Yorkshire.

  6. Snater strikes again . . . and againpublished at 10:56 British Summer Time 22 September 2021

    Northants 30-8 v Essex

Two more victims for Shane Snater at Chelmsford.

Adam Rossington and Josh Cobb in successive balls.

Four ducks in the innings now.

  7. wicket

WICKET Blatherwick c Holland b Abbas 4published at 10:55 British Summer Time 22 September 2021

    Lancashire 27-5 v Hampshire 143

BBC Radio Lancashire's Scott Read has said that the slips are in the thick of this game and this wicket proves it.

Perfect line from Mohammad Abbas, edge from night-watchman Jack Blatherwick and Ian Holland does the rest at third slip.

Terrific cricket from Hampshire. Super start to the morning where it's 2-2.

  8. wicket

    Woakes c Lammonby b Overton 10published at 10:50 British Summer Time 22 September 2021

    Warwickshire 297-7 v Somerset

Chris Woakes is next to go at Edgbaston, caught in the gully off Craig Overton.

Three wickets lost already this morning. Three runs still needed fo three batting points.

The Bears bat a long way down though. Danny Briggs comes in to join Tim Bresnan.

  9. And then there were three?published at 10:48 British Summer Time 22 September 2021

Nottinghamshire 296 all out v Yorkshire

That dismissal of Joey Evison has had a huge ramification on the title race on the second morning.

With Nottinghamshire not getting to 300 and thereby earning an extra batting point, they can only reach 73 points with victory over Yorkshire.

If there is a winner in the match between Lancashire and Hampshire, Lancashire would reach a minimum of 73.5 points and Hampshire 75.5, both higher than Notts can reach.

Given we have already had 14 wickets at Aigburth, a win either way seems certain. However, Nottinghamshire could still finish second and secure a spot in next week's Bob Willis Trophy Final at Lord's.

    Are you still with me?

  10. wicket

    Hain b Brooks 83published at 10:45 British Summer Time 22 September 2021

    Warwickshire 293-6 v Somerset

Another scalp for Somerset. Sam Hain goes for 83 as he aims a drive at Jack Brooks and gets a nick onto his stumps.

Tim Bresnan is the new man in.

10 overs left until the 110-over points cut-off mark. 57 still needed for that fourth batting point. Mind you, they still haven't got the third one yet!!!

  11. wicket

    Zaib c Browne b Snater 0published at 10:41 British Summer Time 22 September 2021

    Northants 26-6 v Essex

Early wicket for Essex in their bid to finish off Northants inside four sessions.

Saif Zaib goes for a second-ball duck, the visitors' third batsman in a row who failed to trouble the scorers.

Still another 63 runs needed to avoid an innings defeat!!!

  12. wicket

WICKET Bohannon c Weatherley b Barker 13published at 10:40 British Summer Time 22 September 2021

    Lancashire 27-4 v Hampshire 143

Hampshire joy this party of early wickets at Aigburth.

That old campaigner Keith Barker is the man to get it, but it owes everything to a spectacular low catch at second slip by Joe Weatherley.

Left-armer Barker coming round the wicket, opens up Josh Bohannon and takes the edge which flies to Weatherley, who grasps it one-handed. The celebrations from him and his team-mates show how good a snaffle that was.

  13. wicket

WICKET Evison lbw b Thompson 58published at 10:35 British Summer Time 22 September 2021

Nottinghamshire 296 all out v Yorkshire

A huge moment at Trent Bridge as Joey Evison is out LBW to Jordan Thompson in the second over of the day.

Dane Paterson stroked a four in the first over, but they fall four runs short of 300 and a third batting point.

  14. wicket

    Burgess c Davies b Overton 20published at 10:33 British Summer Time 22 September 2021

    Warwickshire 287-5 v Somerset

. . . but off the third ball of the day in Birmingham!

Michael Burgess edges Craig Overton to Steven Davies and he's gone.

New man at the crease is England all-rounder Chris Woakes. Just the man for situations like this!

He is immediately away with a single to get off the mark, followed by a drive through extra over off Jack Brooks for four.

  15. Time for the bowlers to make their markpublished at 10:32 British Summer Time 22 September 2021

    Nottinghamshire 292-9 v Yorkshire

Joe Clarke's 109 was the foundation of a good first day's batting effort from Nottinghamshire after being put in by Yorkshire.

Now they need last pair of Joey Evison and Dane Paterson to find at least eight runs this morning to claim another batting point in their unlikely quest to go from fourth to first this week.

With 300 plus on the board, their seam trio of Paterson, Luke Fletcher and Brett Hutton would fancy their chances of getting wickets on this pitch.

  16. Not a batsman's paradisepublished at 10:32 British Summer Time 22 September 2021

    Lancashire 25-3 v Hampshire 143

Putting Hampshire in and bowling them out for 143 was certainly a fine effort from Lancashire's bowlers. But at 71-6, there may be a nagging doubt it could and should have been less.

It certainly felt that way when Keith Barker and Mohammad Abbas had the ball in hand for the visitors as the Red Rose crept to 25-3 from 20 testing overs. Winning the match is paramount, but batting points are needed, yet reaching 200 looks a long way off at the moment.

As for Hants, just how crucial could number nine Mason Crane's 25 off 101 balls - the highest score in the innings - be in the context of this match?

  17. Points for prizespublished at 10:31 British Summer Time 22 September 2021

    Warwickshire 283-4 v Somerset

It's all about bonus points for Warwickshire at Edgbaston as they resume on 283-4 needing another 17 runs off 14 overs to prise a third batting bonus point - or 67 for a fourth.

And that fourth batting point is key!

Following Hampshire's capitulation for 143 at Aigburth yesterday, the Bears would have the title in their own hands if they get that fourth batting point, collect the full three bowling points and go on to beat Somerset at Edgbaston.

"It's all to play for," said Warwickshire captain Will Rhodes. "We need 67 in 14 overs which would helps us out point-wise with what's going on at Liverpool and put us in a position where everything would be in our own hands.

"It was tough going with the bat but the guys did really well to put a decent total on the board. The pitch did a little bit all day which bodes well and hopefully will remain the case over the next couple of days. There is probably not the pace in the pitch we might have truly wanted but hopefully a little bit of sun might quicken it up and it might dry out a little bit and help the carry."

  18. As it stands tablepublished at 10:31 British Summer Time 22 September 2021

Four counties began the week with a chance of being crowned County Championship winners. So here is how the table looks with yesterday's bonus points included:

    Hampshire - 59.5

    Lancashire - 57.5

    Warwickshire - 57

    Nottinghamshire - 54

Expect movement early this morning with both Warwicks and Notts close to 300 and a third batting point.

  19. Four off first ball in Birminghampublished at 10:31 British Summer Time 22 September 2021

    Warwickshire 287-4 v Somerset

Straightish off drive for four from Michael Burgess off Craig Overton's first ball in Birmingham. A signal of intent.
