This is Dom Sibley's third game at Lord's this season and his performances in the previous two were certainly under scrutiny.

He scored 0 and 60 not out against New Zealand, but coming off 207 balls when England had been set 273 to win off 70 overs provoked plenty of criticism.

Then against India he managed 11 off 44 balls before a second innings duck as the tourists won on the final day saw him dropped from the Test team.

He is currently 36 not out from 71 balls.

Four more to Rob Yates as he contemptuously pulls George Balderson down to the boundary for four. If there was a shot to sum up the day, that was it.

If Lancashire can turn the match round from this position, it will be quite some recovery.

Older Warwickshire fans will, of course, remember the name MJK Smith.

We have just checked his book 'Better Cricket for Boys' - a rather bedraggled version - and keeping your leg braced when playing strokes off the front foot is not mentioned.

Still, each to their own, and Dom Sibley is 36 not out for the Bears at Lord's.

If MJK - now aged 88 - is watching, he'll no doubt be wishing Dom can put a 1 in front of that number.

Crash! Lovely sight of the full face of Rob Yates' bat as he sends one straight past George Balderson to the fence.

A single from Dom Sibley brings the scores level with all 10 wickets left. What a position to be in.

Would you believe it? Not one, but TWO dropped catches in the same over and Luke Wood is cursing his luck.

In his first over, the left-armer induces an edges from Rob Yates, which flies through Rob Jones at second slip.

Then he sees Dom Sibley edge low to Alex Davies, who lets the ball escape from his grasp as he goes one-handed.

To rub salt into the wounds, it runs to the boundary for four.

This session is scheduled to go on until 6pm, so this could be a long period of cricket for Lancashire unless they get a couple of quick breakthroughs.

Dom Sibley hits the tenth boundary of the innings with a firm push off George Balderson as runs show no sign of drying up.

  12. Refuge Assurance Cup anyone?published at 15:35 British Summer Time 28 September 2021

    Lancashire 78 v Warwickshire 62-0

Kevin Howells on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra is talking of end-of-season matches between counties in places like Dublin and Guernsey.

Speaking of end-of-season competitions, and I'm probably showing my age here, but I can remember the Refuge Assurance Cup. It was for the teams who finished in the top four in the Sunday League, with semi-finals and finals.

  13. Penny for Vilas' thoughtspublished at 15:28 British Summer Time 28 September 2021

    Lancashire 78 v Warwickshire 59-0

An inside edge from Rob Yates off George Balderson is a bit fortunate, but that is what happens when there are so few runs on the board.

Then when Tom Bailey veers to leg, Yates gets four down to fine leg.

The runs are flowing and Lancashire captain Dane Vilas is struggling to find answers to slow the scoring or take wickets.

Tom Bailey's first ball after the rain and tea break is met by an outside edge from Dom Sibley which squirts down to third man for two.

The fifty is up in double-quick time and the match is moving away from Lancashire at a rate of knots.
