    Lancashire 78 v Warwickshire 49 all out

With less than 40 overs of this game played, Warwickshire are in total and utter control.

Lancashire bowled out for 78 and the Bears motoring along to 49-0 in just 10.4 overs, it is hard to imagine how their situation could be better.

Lancs saw Warwicks overtake them last Friday to take the title and they could be in for a long few days in London.

    Lancashire 78 v Warwickshire 47-0

The lights are on at Lord's as the skies darken.

It's easy to think of a famous Lancastrian bowler who has made hay under the Lord's lights. I'm not sure Warwickshire would have raced along to this score with Jimmy Anderson running in.

Again, Balderson is too short and Rob Yates helps himself to four more through the covers.

  6. New bowler, same storypublished at 14:44 British Summer Time 28 September 2021

    Lancashire 78 v Warwickshire 39-0

George Balderson replaces Jack Blatherwick at the Nursery End and his first ball is greeted with a glorious on-drive by Rob Yates.

Yates hit four centuries in the Championship this season but he only managed four and one against Lancashire in their game at Old Trafford.

The Red Rose had Saqib Mahmood in their attack that match - he bowled Yates in the second innings - and they are missing him here.

Dom Sibley can't believe his luck when Tom Bailey serves up a leg-stump half-volley, and he helps himself to another boundary.

It's 14 not out from 25 balls for Sibley. If he had scored at that sort of run rate for England, he may not have lost his place in the Test team.

Jack Blatherwick again having one or two problems with his line and length, including another wide.

When he goes too full, Rob Yates sends him through the covers for four more.

    Lancashire 78 v Warwickshire 25-0

A better over from Tom Bailey. He has a half-hearted LBW appeal against Sibley, while Yates then squirts one out through the covers.

A bit of luck for the openers, but they still pick up three thanks to some more good running.

  11. Bad omens for the Red Rosepublished at 14:28 British Summer Time 28 September 2021

    Lancashire 78 all out v Warwickshire 22-0

To put Lancashire's batting effort into some sort of context, they have only been bowled out twice for a lower score than their 78 at Lord's since the start of the 21st century.

They only managed 63 against Worcestershire in 2012 and 73 against Nottinghamshire in 2018, both at Old Trafford.

To the surprise of nobody, they lost both of those games.

Here Jack Blatherwick tightens things up with just one run off the over.

  12. Flying startpublished at 14:23 British Summer Time 28 September 2021

    Lancashire 78 v Warwickshire 21-0

Tom Bailey took 50 wickets at 16.86 in the Championship this season and Lancashire need some of the magic he showed in the second innings against Hampshire last week.

But he over-pitches and Dom Sibley caresses it through the field for four. Then when he falls onto Rob Yates' pads, that is whipped square for another boundary.

    The Bears are flying.

  14. 12-6 versus 12-0published at 14:20 British Summer Time 28 September 2021

    Lancashire 78 v Warwickshire 12-0

Jack Blatherwick to open from the Nursery End and his radar is off as he is called for a wide as he struggles with the Lord's slope.

Only a sixth first-class for the opening bowler - a comparative veteran compared to Manraj Johal.

He drops short and Rob Yates cracks two boundaries. The lead is already down to 66 after only two overs. When Lancashire had 12, they had already lost six wickets.

Tom Bailey has the new red cherry in his hands and he beats the edge of Rob Yates' bat with the first ball.

Yates guides one down to fine leg to get the innings up and running before Dom Sibley gets off the mark with a neat push through the covers for two.

Good positive intent from the openers.

  17. Two chances to winpublished at 14:06 British Summer Time 28 September 2021

Lancashire 78 all out v Warwickshire

Warwickshire have put themselves into an outstanding position to win the Bob Willis Trophy after less than 30 overs.

They can win the game the traditional way, while if they score more than Lancashire's 78 and the match ends in a draw, they would lift the trophy by virtue of a higher first-inning score.

Win-win, you might say for the Bears.

A special moment for Craig Miles as he does get his fifth wicket.

Matt Parkinson tries a repeat of his drive for four as he gives a simple chance to Michael Burgess behind the stumps.

Miles holds the ball aloft as he leads Warwickshire off with figures of 5-28. It may be a sparse crowd but it's still a special feeling as he heads up the Lord's pavilion steps.

At the other end, Luke Wood finishes with 46 not out from a total of 78 - not bad at all coming in at number eight.

Luke Wood moves his score to 45 with successive boundaries off Manraj Johal.

In doing so, he helps Lancashire go past 70 - their lowest ever first-class score against Warwickshire.
