That session also saw the end of Devon Conway's quite incredible knock. He became the seventh man to score a double hundred in their debut Test.
He fell agonisingly shot of becoming the first player to carry their bat in their debut innings.
That delivery from Kyle Jamieson to Dom Sibley was brilliant. I do wonder what Sibley was supposed to do. Still, he has now made five consecutive single-figure scores in Tests.
Expertly is a stretch but I'll do my best.
Well... England... Have you really missed them?

England go in for a cuppa without any further damage done.
Fun session, that.
This is much better from Jamieson, who has found his line, and Joe Root plays out a watchful maiden.

In the winter England's first two wickets averaged 25.6 combined.
That is the worst England have ever had in any Test season and second worst by any team to have played five Tests in a season.
Southee slides another delivery past Burns' outside edge before he bangs a short ball over his shoulder.
The pace bowler ends a very good over with another edge rattler of a delivery.

Shot! Joe Root settles some nerves with an easy clip through fine leg for four.
Root 1, Burns 15
Just the 12 minutes to go until tea, folks...

So much seems to depend on Root when you look at this side which is devoid of Stokes and Buttler.
Here's Joe Root...

That's a horrible big drive outside off stump.
