New Zealand have scored 97 runs in 25 overs. It's been New Zealand's session even if they have been pegged back a bit.

    England have been scrappy.

  3. Postpublished at 13:04 British Summer Time 12 June 2021

England only bowled 25.3 overs in that session...

You're meant to bowl 30. Deary me.

    NZ 326-5; lead by 23

Who will be the happiest at lunch?

New Zealand dominated the first hour, scoring 97 runs in total in the session, but England have battled back in the second with those two wickets.

The tourists are strong favourites in the game if you ask me...

    85!?!

    That's a shiver-down-the-spine sort of number.

Daryl Mitchell has played 16 first class innings since the start of the 2019-20 season and averages over 85 in that time.

Tidy enough from Joe Root, but there's no real sign of any spin there yet.

It does at least allow England and Mark Wood to get another over in.

Joe Root is coming on to bowl - perhaps just to squeeze in an extra over before lunch?

Daryl Mitchell has started to do that Steve Smith thing where he plays a shot and then points his bat in the direction that the ball rolls.

Daryl Mitchell's feet have settled down a bit now. It's just his arms that can't stop moving now.

Another good hostile over from Mark Wood. He's getting better in each spell it feels like.

  12. Postpublished at 12:51 British Summer Time 12 June 2021

This was the moment New Zealand went past England's first-innings total of 303.

The question is how far beyond it will they go?

  13. NZ 319-5published at 99 overs

Filthy from Olly Stone. It's short, and wide, and Tom Blundell crashes it to the fence.

Someone not involved in the game sends the ball back, so the umpire has had to get his wipes out and give it a good clean. I say good, it was a bit half-hearted in truth.

There are 10 minutes till lunch? Can England sneak another wicket?

  14. NZ 314-5published at 98.2 overs

Daryl Mitchell has faced three balls so far.

He's come down the pitch to all three.

He's facing Mark Wood and Olly Stone. Brave.

New Zealand do have a longer tail in this game. Neil Wagner, who batted at 11 in the last game, is carded to come in next at eight.

The Edgbaston crowd are sensing something here. The volume flicks up.

That was a good hostile over from Mark Wood.

Well taken James Bracey! This game is very much alive now.

    Nicholls c Bracey b Wood 21 (NZ 312-5)

Wow! How often does that happen?

The ball after the concussion check Henry Nicholls has just strangled one down the legside, off his glove.

Credit where it is due, that is a good low catch by James Bracey. That should help his confidence.

New Zealand have lost two wickets for 20 runs now. Can England restrict them to less than 400?

  19. ouch!

    NZ 312-4published at 97.1 overs

Oh! A little bit of extra venom from Mark Wood and he's hit Henry Nicholls, who was slightly too early on the pull, on the side of the helmet.

He seems absolutely fine, but we'll go through the concussion and helmet checks to be safe of course.
