Shot! After his shaky start Tom Blundell is starting to look good. He pushes a drive down the ground for his third boundary.

Joe Root was smiling and laughing with someone in the slips before that. I'm not sure he's got much to be happy about.

It's all a little bit too comfortable and easy for New Zealand.

England need to do something sharpish or the Test will have got away from them.

  3. NZ 307-4published at 96 overs

    Lead by four

Joe Root's drop of Will Young cost England 75.

Sam Billings' drop of Ross Taylor cost them 12.

James Bracey's drop of Tom Blundell has already cost them 10, and counting.

That's 97 runs. It can't keep happening. They always say they practice catching, but no other side in the world seems to drop this volume of catches.

Here's that latest drop from James Bracey...

Along with the other two England have fluffed in this innings. They haven't done themselves any favours.

Well played New Zealand. They didn't panic, got themselves and have just slightly put their foot on the gas when the ball's been there to hit.

New Zealand are one away from parity.

They will be eyeing up a lead well over three figures. They have been superb.

They are just a joy to watch aren't they? They play the game in the right way.

Sky are looking at James Bracey's technique. They reckon he doesn't keep his eyes on the ball all the way into the gloves.

That seems like a pretty big flaw to me.

Although, I did attempt to keep wicket during high school and I was absolutely woeful so I'm not going to pretend I can teach Bracey anything.

I've been watching cricket for the last 17 years. This has to be the worst England Test side I've seen. Can't bat, can't bowl, can't catch.

I wonder how Olly Stone is feeling.

His current figures are 1-59, but he could have three if England could catch. He also probably wouldn't have gone for 59 if he'd got Will Young on seven.

He's bowled with good control in his two overs so far today.

    Absolutely battered.

At least two defeats by an innings...

S Adams: England are going to get absolutely hammered in the Ashes aren’t they?

Tom Blundell is taking an off-stump guard too. Apparently it is something he has always done, but does that leave him vulnerable to the nick off?

Mark Wood beats his outside edge.

Poor James Bracey, his head is shot. He must take those catches every week for his county.

England will be glad to see the back of Ross Taylor.

He was scoring freely this morning.

The highest of highs and the lowest of lows in that over for Olly Stone.

Another good, full delivery. It hit him on the wrist - that is just a misjudgement. Olly Stone has hit a good rhythm but England have shelled some chances. He will be slightly miffed as he puts his cap on.

  18. dropped catch

Blundell dropped on 0published at 91 overs

    Oh, James Bracey.

Tom Blundell has a pretty unusual technique. He's very crouched, and looks down at the wicket for a good period of time, and he has a little defensive prod and gets a thick edge. It seems to catch Bracey, who is at reasonable stretch, on the wrist rather than in the glove. Would it have carried to Joe Root. It is a big miss.

A Test wicketkeeper has to take that for me.

England were desperate for that. It was slightly fuller and Ross Taylor went after it. I would have had to sit with James Bracey this evening if he had dropped that one.

Give an assist for the Taylor wicket to the Hollies' beer snake. Just as Stone bowled, a huge cheer went up for an extra section added. The crowd celebrated with "Feed the snake! Feed the snake!"
