Thanks for following our coverage of New Zealand's eight-wicket victory over England.

What could've been a really belting match turned to farce as England collapsed once again, albeit with the Kiwis showing exactly why they'll be taking on India in the World Test Championship final next week at the Ageas Bowl.

Join us for that match from 18 June.

Before that we'll also have live coverage of England women's Test against India in Bristol, starting on Wednesday.

For now, Stephan Shemilt's report is here.

    The scorecard is here.

The Test Match Special podcast will be available to listen to or download later on here.

And you can watch highlights on Today at the Test on BBC Two or the BBC Sport website from 19:00 BST.

    For now, farewell.

More from Joe Root on TMS: "A lot of the problems are mental, and having clarity on how you want to play and how you're going to deal with different situations is very important. You can do a lot of your batting without actually facing any deliveries. It is understanding that side of your game.

"It is not an inexperienced side. There is a good number of Test matches behind our batting group now, but it is still a relatively young side and a team still learning their way and we've got to learn fast because we're playing Test cricket. There is still plenty of learning to do, but if you can marry that with the talent and ability that they've got we could see some really big scores by the back end of the year."

From what I've seen from this batting line-up when the pressure comes on, the intensity of Test cricket, the scrutiny of it, they can't handle it.

That have quirky techniques, but they've scored a lot of runs in County Cricket and at times scored Test runs.

When the pressure comes they are not handling the mental pressure that you need to do. They have to be honest with themselves and speak to people about it. It is a massive area of concern for me.

New Zealand bowler Matt Henry on TMS: "This group has been together for a long time and that is the foundation of our success. When someone comes in they are able to fit straight in and express themselves. There is no expectation, other than just to enjoy your cricket."

Rarely do we get beat in England. I do remember a time when Australia and West Indies would come here and dominate. I fear that may happen, I honestly do.

This India side are high class. If England don't get better quickly it could be a very long summer.

Joe Root, asked if he regretted England's approach on the final day of the drawn Lord's Test: "I don't look at that and see that any differently. Having batted on that surface, it was a real challenge to score at seven or eight an over for a length of time."

The batters will have to decide whether they want to face a million balls or 10 balls before that India Test in August. You've got to make your own mind up about how you are going to prepare yourself.

It is almost another step up in a long series.

They've got to go away and front up to the challenge. It is exciting as a player when you get challenges like that, because if you deliver it is a great feeling. That's what sport can do.

  10. World Test Championship final 'a big challenge'published at 12:46 British Summer Time 13 June 2021

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson: "I feel great. A fantastic performance and a strong one in the first Test as well. It was good to improve on it here, with both bat and ball."

On the World Test Championship final: "We're off to Southampton and we've got to think on our feat, make those adjustments and fully commit to those changes. The focus will be to enjoy this but also know there is a big challenge ahead and an exciting opportunity we're really looking forward to."

On injury issues, including his own: "We're trying to recover as quickly as possible. The Tests in quick succession meant juggling the bowling here. We've got a few days to go and hopefully all the injuries keep progessing well.

"Selection headaches are good problems to have. They'll be a few conversations over the next few days."

I don't want England to panic and start to prepare green tops. If England have any chance of winning in Australia, this batting line-up has to get used to making big, big scores.

  12. 'It is not a time to panic'published at 12:41 British Summer Time 13 June 2021

More from Joe Root on TMS: "There is a lot of cricket to be played between now and the Ashes. That is a decision that we've got time to make. The general core of this group has been the same for quite a while now and there has been some good performances within that. It is not a time to panic.

"If you look at previous tours to Australia, whether that is for the Ashes, ODI series or World Cups we've just got to stay calm and trust what we've been doing for a long time now. That is going to be really important."

Joe Root will be disappointed. He'll know deep down that his side just haven't been good enough.

The fundamental basics of playing at this level require skill, discipline and a mental toughness and they haven't shown much of that in the last two.

It would have been 2-0 if it hadn't rained at Lord's. New Zealand are a class team.

  14. 'New Zealand schooled us on batting'published at 12:37 British Summer Time 13 June 2021

More from Root on TMS: "If you look at this series there have been a couple of really good performances with the bat. Rory Burns was excellent for the majority of the series, Dan Lawrence has showed his class and there were a couple of good starts from the likes of Ollie Pope.

"Ultimately we've got to be more consistent and look to do it for longer periods of time. That is how we're going to be a better team, a more consistent side and make bigger scores.

"New Zealand have schooled us a little bit of that this week, and you've got to learn from the opposition from time to time."

  15. Postpublished at 12:33 British Summer Time 13 June 2021

More from Latham: "It was great to captain here and there are a lot of leaders in the team so it was great to lean on them as well.

"It's great to get an extra day of rest before India but we'll celebrate as well - we've not won here since 1999 so it's important to celebrate those achievements."

  16. Postpublished at 12:33 British Summer Time 13 June 2021

More from Joe Root on TMS: "All I would say on batting is there is no right or wrong way to bat. If you look at the best batters in the world, none of them bat the same way. They've all got their own technique and their own style, but they've all got a very clear way of how they want to score their runs. They've got a good balance between attack and defence and they manage situations well and different conditions and more than anything that's what we've got to look to improve on.

"We've got to recognise what the dangers are, we know where we're going to score our runs, and that we can make good decisions for a long period of time and ultimately that is the art of Test batting. It is something we need to be a bit more consistent on."

England have been beaten by a good team. New Zealand are a high-class cricket team, every aspect of their game I just like. They bat with a great maturity, they read the situation perfectly.

  18. Postpublished at 12:26 British Summer Time 13 June 2021

New Zealand skipper Tom Latham: "It's great to have that performance under the belt. We were outstanding over the four days, everyone who came in did their roles.

"It's fantastic for the depth of New Zealand cricket. Will Young, Matt Henry, haven't had much opportunity but the way they stood up was outstanding.

"England have a fantastic bowling attack and we played them really well. We adapted well and put good numbers on the board."

  19. 'We massively underperformed'published at 12:22 British Summer Time 13 June 2021

England captain Joe Root on TMS: "It hasn't been our best week, has it? I think we've massively underperformed. Credit to New Zealand - they have outperformed us throughout the game. It is a tough one to take because at the start of the week I thoroughly thought we could come here and win the series, but in all departments we could have been a little bit better if we're being brutally honest.

"We'll pick ourselves back up and dust ourselves off. We've got a lot of cricket still to play this summer, a lot of exciting cricket. We're a talented bunch of players so we'll definitely come back stronger."

England, at this stage, just don't look like a side that you'd lose too much sleep about playing against.

There isn't a great deal that you look at. James Anderson hasn't moved the ball anything like he does usually, Stuart Broad was magnificent in this game, but I wouldn't mind playing against this England side, I have to be honest.
