New Zealand opener Devon Conway: "Definitely didn't believe it would go this well. It's very special to win here in England and it'll take some time for that to sink in.

"It's been a good challenge, it's been exciting batting up the order and it's awesome to bat with Tom Latham and learn from him.

"You get challenged for long periods against world-class bowlers but it's about taking each ball at a time and staying with that process.

"It's good that I was just able to contribute to a series win in England.

"I'm very excited about the final against India and it's been a big help playing in England and getting used to the conditions."

  2. New Zealand player of the series - Devon Conwaypublished at 12:16 British Summer Time 13 June 2021

New Zealand batter Devon Conway is named their player of the series.

A double ton on debut followed by 80 in the first innings here.

    Handy.

  3. England player of the series - Rory Burnspublished at 12:15 British Summer Time 13 June 2021

England opener Rory Burns is named the hosts' player of the series after his century at Lord's and 81 in the first innings here.

He's been one positive from this series for England at least.

  4. Player of the match - Matt Henrypublished at 12:14 British Summer Time 13 June 2021

New Zealand bowler Matt Henry: "The crowd has been unbelievable, it's been very special. It was incredible and there was great energy and it really helped.

"I had an understanding of how to bowl on these surfaces. Day one and two it was a sound wicket and we knew there would be a new ball wicket and tried to get them in clumps. Once you got in, it was a good wicket to bat on.

"It's pretty easy to get motivated to play for your country. We've had a strong squad for a while and every time you get the opportunity you want to do your best."

England are crying out for a spinner and an all-rounder to balance their side. They have a spinning all-rounder in Moeen Ali but they won't pick him.

They didn't pick a spinner, they need to pick one. We saw how effective Ajaz Patel was and the variety it gives to the captain. It is muddled thinking from beginning to end from England.

From an outsider's point of view it is very difficult to understand how you can surround yourself with so many coaches, helpers and so many staff and so many facilities and so much money and so many good contracts and perform like that.

England are missing Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Jofra Archer, Chris Woakes and Sam Curran.

New Zealand made six changes from the first Test though and battered them.

I normally always support the England cricket team through thick and thin but this series has really annoyed me, not going for the total at Lords, the selections, the attitudes of the players, preparedness, the decisions, availability, the lack of respect shown for the side and what it means for fans and the game. I hope there is some serious reflection about how this has been nowhere near good enough and not in the correct spirit.

I'd be guessing, but we've all talked, and they've talked about it, so it isn't a case of blaming the media, but the players are preparing for the Ashes. They were even doing so in Sri Lanka, planning mentally and so on. Whether or not they are just consumed by that...

The rotation policy that took place in India, the loss of confidence after being bundled out by India in that Test series after they won the first Test, whether that had a hangover...

There has been a lot of talk about the contrast in batting technique. I can see that as a bowler. You know which group of batters you'd rather bowl at because of the technical oddities of the England top-order.

They've got a lot of thinking to do because you can't just chuck everyone out and start again. There are so many things to think about.

Can you explain it? You've watched more of this team than anyone. What do you put it down to?

England have been completely outplayed in every department: batting, bowling, fielding and catching. They've been done.

They've got a lot to think about.

Joe Root leads his side over to the boundary to congratulate the New Zealand side as they make their way down from the balcony.

A massive boost for the tourists before next week's World Test Championship final against India.

You'd think and hope that will be a much, much closer contest.

We don't get to these circumstances very often. We've had a couple of victories since 1930, our first tour of England, and this is only the third time.

New Zealand win the two-Test series 1-0.

It's a shame they didn't get at least three Tests. Not a shame for England, mind.

This is the Black Caps' first series win in England since 1999.

It is the first time that Joe Root has lost a series at home.

It was a grim performance and a comprehensive defeat for England.

It is such a long way till the Test team meet again in August.

Any good the players can do in the two rounds of County Championship games is pretty much worthless because of the three-week gap between those games and the first Test against India.
