I'm with Ebony. Hasaranga is great and he begins with a decent enough over.

This one from Dawid Malan earlier is the shot of the day so far, for me.

Hasaranga is becoming one of my favourite cricketers.

The light blue shoes against the dark blue clothes, Hasaranga has definitely thought this look through hasn't he?

  5. Eng 50-0published at 6.1 overs

Wanindu Hasaranga, Sri Lanka's blonde-tipped leg-spinner, is introduced now.

There's gentle applause as England reach 50.

  6. Eng 48-0published at 6 overs

    Bairstow 26, Malan 14

There's not a lot wrong with this delivery but Bairstow still slaps it away to the fence. England's ginger-haired opener looks at ease right now against Sandakan's box of tricks.

That's a poor start from the spinner, it was too full and with mid-off in the circle, it was too easy for Jonny Bairstow to just loft it down the ground.

  8. Eng 43-0published at 5.1 overs

Sandakan's first ball is powered down the ground by Bairstow. England are motoring.

  9. Eng 39-0published at 5 overs

    Bairstow 17, Malan 14

Malan heaps some more pain onto Udana with a four through the leg side. Two fours, eight wides, three dots and a single in that over. Quite frankly, it was a mess.

Left-arm leggie Lakshan Sandakan is coming on.

I feel for Udana here, he just hasn't found his radar and it's a brutal game when that happens.

  11. Eng 35-0published at 4.4 overs

Eeeek. This is turning into a very long over. Udana bowls his fourth wide delivery. He's run in eight times and still has two more deliveries to go.

Having started reasonably well, Sri Lanka won't like this. They've given England a chance to get away from them now.

  13. Eng 32-0published at 4.2 overs

Four wides now from Udana. Can Karim Benzema play cricket?

  14. Eng 27-0published at 4.1 overs

Olivier Giroud lookalike himself, Irusu Udana, is on and begins with a wide. Jonny Bairstow then crunches him over extra cover. Not a great start.

Sri Lanka have bowled some really good deliveries so far but England have always managed to find a way to release the pressure, either by a boundary or just rotating the strike.

  16. Eng 22-0published at 4 overs

Despite Malan's six, I wouldn't say the pitch looks perfect. The leftie swings at another and takes the ball in the midriff somewhere, grunting and groaning as he does. A decent comeback from Fernando.

That was the first time Fernando had erred from his line and length. He just went a bit too straight and Malan timed it to perfection.

  18. 6 runs

    Eng 20-0published at 3.1 overs

A lovely, lovely shot from Dawid Malan, who steps across his stumps and lifts Fernando a mile over the leg side for six. I'll be impressed if we see a better shot today.

When England were a side in transition after the 2015 World Cup, particularly in 50-over cricket, they stuck with the same group of players no matter their form. Sri Lanka need to do something similar.

Sri Lanka's kit is lovely, isn't it? England's? An abomination.
