Before he played the shot Fuller committed that he was going to play it to the leg side and Van Der Merwe just read it.

  2. wicket

WICKET Fuller run out (van der Merwe) 22published at 16.6 overs

    Hants 111-6 v Somerset

Finally some relief as James Fuller whacks a full toss over midwicket for six.

But then he's calling for a single with the ball way too close to the bowler.

Joe Weatherley rightly goes nowhere and Fuller is stranded and ran out by almost the full length of the pitch.

  3. Hants 99-5 v Somersetpublished at 16 overs

When does Joe Weatherley have a dart here?

Leave it too late and a chance of 140 may pass him by.

No sign of aggression here. Singles and a wide from the over.

Very good from Marchant de Lange again.

  4. '140 would be something to bowl at'published at 12:02 British Summer Time 18 September 2021

If they get 10 an over from here, it gets them 140 and that's something to bowl at. In their quarter-final against Notts, they defended a small total.

It's a great knock from Joe Weatherley and he's played some magnificent shots.

But no one has been able to support which is why Hampshire have sort of stuttered through their innings.

    That was Lewis Goldsworthy's last.

James Fuller came down the pitch to slap one past deep cover for four.

Tight rest of the over. Five to go.

Almost a run out with a big mix up but Joe Weatherley gets through for a tight single to raise a vital half-century for his side.

    Hants 84-5 v Somerset

Marchant de Lange with his slingers for the first time today (thanks Richie).

James Fuller takes two dots and then squeezes a single to long leg.

De Lange getting it right up in the blockhole and he too can only run one.

A sharp bumper at 90mph has Fuller ducking.

And he gets away with a full toss last ball just for one.

    Great over. Hampshire going nowhere.

  8. Postpublished at 13 overs

    Hants 81-5 v Somerset

And just one run from the rest of the over.

    Excellent stuff from Lewis Goldsworthy.

    Hants really struggling again.

But Joe Weatherley is still out there.

Joe Weatherley needs to bat through the bulk of these remaining seven or so overs now.

  10. wicket

WICKET McManus c Banton b Goldsworthy 4published at 12.1 overs

    Hants 80-5 v Somerset

    Another goes.

Lewis McManus tries to cut from a tight line and a feather edge is well held by Tom Banton.

A hint of bounce did for him.

  11. 'Weatherley the key for Hampshire'published at 11:50 British Summer Time 18 September 2021

    Chris Woakes

Weatherley is the only one that has found any timing on this pitch so far. The other batsmen have struggled so far.

    He is the key.

Roelof van der Merwe is back and Joe Weatherley fancies a piece down the ground.

Not a perfect strike but enough club to carry the straight fence.

Then a nudge and go leg side for two. Smart cricket.

  13. Hants 70-4 v Somersetpublished at 11 overs

Lewis Goldsworthy is back and a very tidy set.

Perhaps 140 is the best Hampshire can hope for now.

Very well deserved, he's bowled a really fine over.

Deceived him with the slower ball then a full-pace yorker.

  15. wicket

WICKET Dawson b Green 18published at 9.6 overs

    Hants 65-4 v Somerset

    But Ben Green does strike!

It's a great yorker, Liam Dawson tries to work it into the leg side and is cleaned up.

Just when the stand was making a little progress.

Half-way and Somerset firmly in command with that wicket.

Even though they have lost their early wickets, they are a very intelligent unit.

Liam Dawson can score at a fantastic strike rate but seems to be able to get runs without risking his wicket - and that's what Hampshire need.

You will see some touch play from Dawson and some really quick running between the wickets.

  17. Hants 61-3 v Somersetpublished at 9 overs

Ben Green with some right-arm medium taking over.

Might this be easier to get at than the spin?

  18. Hants 61-3 v Somersetpublished at 9 overs

Couple of full tosses in the over but they're only worked for singles.

Hampshire content to work it around for the moment.

No doubt that there's much to come.

  20. Hants 56-3 v Somersetpublished at 8 overs

Joe Weatherley steers a couple of twos to end the over and Hampshire are just getting a little stand together.

    Goodness do they need it.
