The T20 Blast trophy is in the hands of Kent skipper Sam Billings and their 25-run triumph over Somerset ends county cricket's white-ball season.

It was a fantastic occasion at Edgbaston, with a crowd determined to make the most of the day following the Covid restrictions of last summer.

After the excitement of Finals Day, there is a massive week ahead with Hampshire, Warwickshire, Lancashire and Nottinghamshire all in contention to win the County Championship.

Whoever finishes top of Division One will be crowned champions but the runners-up will have another chance of silverware in the Bob Willis Trophy match at Lord's at the end of the month.

We'll be back with you on Tuesday morning for full Championship coverage. See you then.

There is no doubt that Kent Spitfires are worthy winners of their second domestic T20 title.

They achieved nine victories to top their group and produced two excellent performances defending totals on Finals Day.

The club have also run into form in red-ball cricket in recent weeks with three successive wins and their bowlers were backed up at Edgbaston by some tremendous fielding.

As for Somerset, it will be a trophyless summer following their fourth defeat in five appearances in a T20 final, having previously come up short from 2009-2011 following their solitary success in 2005.

  7. 'I ain't going to stop yet'published at 21:53 British Summer Time 18 September 2021

Kent's Darren Stevens speaking to Sky Sports

"The boys have been outstanding all tournament and to turn it in the last two games, I’m lost for words really.

"These young lads keep spurring me on and setting me challenges. I just love the game and I ain’t going to stop yet.

"The fans have been outstanding and they’re still going now, we can’t thank them enough.

On Jordan Cox: "That’s as good as I’ve ever seen on a cricket field and for 21-year-old kid, he was so calm.

"He’s been outstanding all tournament, our ‘Mr Consistent’. He’s got a bright future ahead of him."

The fielding has been absolutely outstanding and Jordan Cox in particular; he is my man of the match.

There’s always a moment where you go ‘wow’.

It was his night, he must be feeling ten foot tall and it’s very fitting that a great tournament in front of a phenomenal crowd was able to see cricket of that quality.

Neil Boughton: Congratulations Kent. Superb all round performance in the final. Some incredibly poor death bowling, and an even poorer batting performance has let Somerset down big time. Credit though, Kent by far and away the better side and deserve the win

The noise has barely diminished all day and Kent supporters will party long into the night.

Two sixes in the final over of the game as Marchant de Lange hoists Grant Stewart over square leg but Kent don't care, the T20 Blast trophy is theirs.

The 2007 winners came on strong after Somerset had the upper hand in the first 10 overs of the game.

Jordan Cox's 58 not out off 28 balls gave Kent a good total and he also produced some brilliant fielding as Somerset's run-chase crumbled.

Will Smeed's 43 was the only innings of note and Darren Stevens will receive a winner's medal at the age of 45 after chipping in with the wicket of Lewis Gregory.

Somerset chose to bowl first on the basis that the dew and lights would come into effect and there was also that downpour of rain, but it’s dried up since then so it’s kind of backfired.

There’s a feeling that it’s looking like another win in T20 finals day is going to elude Somerset.

I know exactly what the guys down there are feeling.

It's looks nigh-on impossible but these guys will keep on fighting. It’s almost a boundary a ball now.
