Hampshire and Somerset met twice in the South Group qualifying stages - and there are few clues as to who will emerge triumphant in today's first semi-final.

Somerset won a nail-biter by seven runs in June thanks to Tom Banton's 77 and Will Smeed's unbeaten 63, as Hampshire fell just short in reply despite 66 from Colin de Grandhomme.

Hampshire exacted revenge in July, thrashing Somerset by 75 runs in the reverse fixture as Lewis McManus hit an undefeated 60.

  2. Weather outlookpublished at 10:55 British Summer Time 18 September 2021

    Edgbaston weather

Not the greatest of forecasts for T20 Finals Day - with the possibility of rain later on. Let's hope any showers will be fleeting ones.

There is the possibility of a reserve day on Sunday, as happened last year when Saturday was totally washed out - but fingers crossed it will not come to that.

For now, the Birmingham skies are looking fairly bright. Not long until the action gets under way.

It's going to be a long, long day ahead at Edgbaston.

Potentially 120 overs of cricket, four teams, three matches, two finalists and only one winner.

But the main news is that the Wifi's working, so is my laptop, both Covid-free me and my machine have passed all the security tests, the coffee here is fab and the view is, as always, breathtaking...

...And, most importantly of all, my bacon butty has arrived. Smoked, on a brioche bun. So good I didn't even need to smother it in red sauce. Waitress service too! Wow!

    Let the games commence...

Somerset skipper Lewis Gregory to Sky Sports after winning the toss: "It looks a pretty good surface, it's an early start so we want to try to make use of the new ball.

"It's nice to play in the first semi as you get a normal prep but the guys are just looking forward to getting out there."

Hampshire captain James Vince, also to Sky Sports: "We would have had a bowl but sometimes it is good on a day like this to get runs on the board.

"We have to enjoy the atmosphere as this is one of the best grounds to play at."
