He was within touching distance of a century, but Gloucestershire's Glenn Phillips finishes the innings with an excellent 94 runs off 58 balls.

That's despite Sussex's Tymal Mills taking 3-20 from four overs to keep them with a fighting chance, with 163 the target.

WICKET Ballance b Steel 34published at 20:40 British Summer Time 25 June 2021

    Leics 207-3 v Yorkshire 93-4

Only eight for Yorkshire from the 11th over of their innings, bowled by Gavin Griffiths. They need more than that and suffer another body blow at the start of the next as Gary Ballance tries to cut a ball that is too close to him and chops into his stumps. George Hill is next man in.

  3. Postpublished at 20:38 British Summer Time 25 June 2021

    Northants 57-1 v Lancashire 130-7

Lancashire call up Matt Parkinson, and he needs some of his brother Callum's wicket-taking magic not too far away at Leicester. It's a decent first over, yielding only four singles, but no breakthrough. The Steelbacks need 73 off 66 balls to win.

  4. Middlesex bag anotherpublished at 20:37 British Summer Time 25 June 2021

    Middlesex 174-7 v Surrey 79-2 (9 overs)

Spin continues to do the business for Middlesex as Nathan Sowter has Jamie Smith caught on the boundary by Daryl Mitchell.

That's both Surrey openers back in the hutch and the visitors will hope their slower bowling will be able to tighten the squeeze on Surrey from here.

  5. De Grandhomme motoring for Hampshirepublished at 20:35 British Summer Time 25 June 2021

    Somerset 172-9 v Hampshire 83-2 (9 overs)

Colin de Grandhomme could be making a timely arrival here for Hampshire.

He's unbeaten on 39 with D'Arcy Short (27 not out) offering valuable support at the other end.

Hampshire in a good position here needing 90 off 66 balls.

Callum Parkinson strikes again and this time it's the big one as Joe Root hits a full toss to the fielder at point. No wonder the England Test captain can't believe what he has done.

New batsman Harry Brook takes one from the next ball, but slow left-armer Parkinson now has 3-25 from three overs.

Gary Ballance is 27 not out at the other end.

    Middlesex 174-7 v Surrey 74-1 (7.3 overs)

Middlesex burgle themselves a wicket and a much-needed one too.

Nick Gubbins and his part-time spin induces a loose shot from Will Jacks who picks out Chris Green on the deep mid-wicket boundary.

He was going for his half-century with that shot too!

There were no Samit Patel heroics like in last week's game between these two sides.

Notts have been limited to 137 after he was dismissed for three, with three wickets in a matter of moments by Derbyshire's Mattie McKiernan compounding their difficulties after the innings interval.

The Falcons will need 138 to win.

    Innings break at Chelmsford.

Kent started off like an express train in their innings but Essex came roaring back with some fantastic outfielding to restrict them to 167-9 in the end.

Zak Crawley (43) and Daniel Bell-Drummond (50) looked like helping them post 230 at one stage.

Jimmy Neesham picks up a couple of wickets in that last over.

Brett D'Oliveira carves a boundary over backward point to push Worcestershire's total past 150. They need 24 from 18.
