Summary

  • Spirit survive wobble from 108-3 to 124-7 to win opener

  • Eve Jones (47) & Amy Jones (33) help Phoenix to 128-6

  1. Phoenix 1-0published at Ball 1

Katie Mack scampers a quick single from the first ball.

One thing we noticed from Shafali Verma in the England v India series is that she doesn't like running singles, so I wonder how she felt about that one.

Birmingham Phoenix have gold pads. How cool. If anyone was made for gold pads, I think it's Shafali Verma.

Last night during the men's game I 'commentator's cursed' three players - saying how good they were playing and then they got out next ball. I really hope I haven't done this to Shafali.

    Let's go.

It really was a great game and with two star-studded teams in action today, there's a good chance we'll get something similar.

London Spirit run out onto the field through their tunnel thing, and Heather Knight commands her troops into the right fielding positions.

Shafali Verma makes her entrance to some big cheers, cool as a cucumber, shortly followed by Australia's Katie Mack.

The cricket was so good in the first game. Explosive batting, fast bowling and that run chase which went down to the last five balls. It was great and I was so pleased to be there.

In case you're wondering why Tammy Beaumont's name isn't on the team sheet today, a team spokesperson said: "Tammy Beaumont was given permission to attend a family wedding and is therefore unavailable for London Spirit’s first game as she follows the Covid-19 testing protocol before re-entering the team environment. We recognise that safe living asks a lot of our players, and with their wellbeing at the front of our minds it's right that we support them."

London Spirit captain Heather Knight speaking to Sky Sports: "It's a fresh wicket, not too sure how it's going to play. Think it might be quite hard to defend"

"The Hundred is going to be huge. Young English players will experience playing under pressure, under scrutiny and having to perform under those conditions. It's very good for English cricket."
