Phoenix 62-3published at Ball 53
Ooooh and she won't like that even more - another four to Eve Jones as the fielder pretty much dives over the ball and it races away to the boundary.
Spirit survive wobble from 108-3 to 124-7 to win opener
Eve Jones (47) & Amy Jones (33) help Phoenix to 128-6

Love that, Eve Jones! She thumps Deandra Dottin for four and that was hit very hard. Dottin will not like that.
Halfway through Phoenix's innings and they'll definitely want the Joneses to stick around for the remaining 50 balls if they can.

We have seen the elegance of Amy Jones as she shows good use of her feet and her preference of playing spin.
And Amy Jones joins the party, smashing her England captain for two fours in a row.
That'll give the batting team some confidence and they'll be wanting a few more.

Edgbaston is by no means full but the crowd is starting to build. Expect more to arrive throughout the day with the men’s game later.

There's the timing we've been looking for, that was a lovely looking shot..
That's more like it! Eve Jones skips down the pitch and plonks Deepti Sharma over her head for four.
I say plonks... she smashed it, really.

The batters are finding it so hard to find any timing, let alone hitting the ball at all.
It's the two Joneses at the crease, Eve and Amy - the latter has been batting pretty well for England this summer and her side will need some runs from her here to get them out of trouble.

My only criticism when Heather Knight captains England is that she doesn't bowl enough. Another mishit from a Birmingham batter.
Arlott c Dottin b Knight 8 (Phoenix 37-3)
Trouble for the Phoenix.
I was surprised to see Emily Arlott batting so high, but her instructions were probably to try and whack some quick runs. She tries to smash Heather Knight's first ball but can only hit it straight to Dottin's waiting hands instead.

It looked like it was going straight to the fielder but it almost nutmegged her.
That's unlucky for Gibson - it's hit powerfully from Eve Jones but goes straight through the legs of the fielder for four more.
That's one where you don't want to make eye contact with the bowler.

How on earth she found that gap I will never know, but she timed the ball so well.
That'll do nicely! Emily Arlott whacks Danielle Gibson's first ball for four.
So that's the end of the powerplay - the first 25 balls - and Spirit captain Heather Knight can now have four fielders out on the boundary as opposed to two.
Spirit well on top here and Emily Arlott is the new batter.

Absolutely cracking wicket, it's such a big one knowing how dangerous Verma can be. We didn't really see her get away from it today, just two boundaries but didn't really seem to be timing it.
